Album Notes

Nancy Yuen is most well known for her potrayal of Puccini heroines like Liu and Butterfly, but in this debut collection with the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra under Somtow Sucharitkul, she really shows the depth of her talent, beginning with a stunning interpretation of Strauss's FOUR LAST SONGS. The album includes bits of both Liu and Butterfly, traditional Chinese songs, two arias from Somtow's MAE NAAK, a role which she created with the Bangkok Opera, and arias by Mozart and Verdi.

REVIEWS

Dear Nancy, if you remember me, this is your classmate from Good Hope who loves drawing. Last March, I saw you on TV sharing how thankful you were be'g able to join the HK Interschool Music Fest. I am very happy to know how far you have gone and how much you have acheived. When I listened to your song, I found your voice smooth and enchanting, so pleasing to the ears. Keep up the great job and pay it forward. God bless!

By far, the highlight of this album is the crystalline purity and supple, full-spectrum color of Yuen's voice, unobscured by her tasteful use of vibrato. Shining like a beacon through the beautifully-woven orchestrations of these opera masterpieces, her liquid, soprano voice gently tugs the listener through the enchanted worlds of Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Chinese folk songs.
