REVIEWS
Superb! The first band on stage were Arctic Monkeys.....Now it's the turn of Fred Yukka, one of the two bands I'd specially made the trip down to the Boardwalk to see…No disappointment here…."

"Fred Yukka next, a band that reminded us of a bit of shonky New Wave, especially The Fall at times. The music was very good”

"I am not sure whether to think this is terrible or pure genius! I would like to hear Fred Yukka getting into a proper studio and doing something more with these tracks"

Paul – Fred Yukka

HISTORY OF FRED YUKKA
Imagine the scene, a roaring fire, a ten pack of stubbies, two guitars and an idea. Just an idea of leather trousers and dancing girls. Fred Yukka was born (although then un-named) in the forests of New South Wales, Australia in December 2000.

Paul and Wal in NSW 2002

Overlooking Bondi Beach, Sydney, strings were broken as lesbian neighbours sat in awe of the beginnings of Drive On Amber. The cogs of the hit-producing machine had begun to turn.

Later across the pond, back to the darker, colder realities of life in Sheffield, the material was gathered and all that was once an idea became an irresistible dream. An orgy of music was arranged to air the Yukka creation in a dynamic forum of music. In March 2002, Wal began his quest to become the greatest drummer never to own a drum kit, and Paul looked to develop his male gigolo attitude into the forefront of a fresh, new and individual rock band.

Although widely acclaimed, a gig at the Deepend, Sheffield in June 2002, paved the way for a true and powerful guitarist. Luckily, as a witness to an accident involving a refuse van, Fred Yukka was introduced to Chris and the 3 sides of the Fred Yukka equilateral triangle were forged.

The busy schedule has consolidated Fred Yukka as an adaptive and quirky rock band, the likes of which you will never have had the pleasure to witness before.

This album is an eclectic mix of music from a very original band. It's hard to sum it up, so here are just a few thoughts about some of the tracks. Tribute to David Hasselhoff is inspired, whether you're a fan of The Hoff or not. One of my faves is Munchkinland for its LA Woman-type feel. The Professional is genius - love the thumping riff. Big Ben is their punky song - very cool. Rock n'Roll Legend is a tale of modern man without the whingeness of some latter day bands grappling with this subject - it also has a brilliant ending - listen for the nod to Gn'R. Drive on Amber is a classic - you'll find yourself singing it driving round town, just don't go through any red lights! I've no idea what Lezbian Hedgehog is about - totally bizarre, but worth a listen, esp for the skit at the beginning. Finally, Relentless is a brilliant way to end the album - a tale of the modern salesman. Some of it's a bit shonky, but shows promise - give it a try, see what you think.
