Yvonne C. Cobbs-Bey was born and raised in Oakland, CA. This Singer, Choir Director, Songwriter and Actress is a graduate of the University of California San Francisco, holding a Master in the Science of Nursing and is a certified Nurse Practitioner. Yvonne has directed Gospel Choirs for over 30 years and was awarded by the Bay Area Gospel Music Awards, the Director of the Year Award in 1999. In addition, Yvonne has been featured as a singer and song writer on many projects with the choirs of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.

Yvonne is currently a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A. L. Cobbs, Sr. and has been performing and rehearsing to perform all her life, she grew up in a gospel music family.
Her father was the lead singer for the Southern Bells, of New Orleans, Louisiana, the Corinthian Singers of San Francisco, California, and he sang with the Soul Stirrs of Chicago, Illinois. Her mother holds a Liberal Arts Degree form Xavier University, Louisiana, majoring in Music Education and she has played piano for various churches in Louisiana, and the Bay Area.

It was a normal family setting to see Yvonne, her brother, and her sister at rehearsals or live performances of either parent. “I have always sung either imitating my father and his quartet group or I was singing along with the various choirs my mother would be playing for”, says Yvonne.

“My first public solo performance was at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. My grand mother had often reminded me that when I was 2 years old I sung “Walk with Me Lord” with confidence and an up-lifted voice. At age 5, I had my first experience directing a choir; my mom was playing the piano and directing the senior choir of the New Strangers Home Missionary Baptist Church, in San Francisco. The choir was not following as she was directing with one hand and playing with the other. So, I began directing the choir as my mother played the piano. Shortly there after I became apart of the children’s choir and began directing them

After about 3 years my father was called to be the Pastor of First Corinthian’s Missionary Baptist Church, in Oakland where my family formed the music department. My mother played piano and organ, my brother played drums, my sister sang in the youth choir, and I directed the youth choir.” “I have been giving praise and worship in this way all my life”.
