Za'atar is a Berkeley-based band dedicated to the performance of the vibrant music of Mizrahi (Middle Eastern Jewish) cultures.
The members of Za'atar breathe spirit into the music, leading to dancing, chanting, and the ululating (zagharid) that commonly accompanies this music in the Middle East.
Za'atar members collect and arrange its repertoire, which includes traditional and modern, sacred and social music of the Mizrahi Jews.

This is an extraordinary CD!
author: Sidi Abu Yaaza Filmworks
This CD is truly extraordinary. It opens up the musical world of Mizrahi Jews. It also lovingly invites us to embrace the world in a way that moves us beyond traditional either/or thinking and to think of the cultural and spiritual realities of Jews of many differing contexts. This music heals, transports, liberates, and transforms. And my 8 year-old son loves it!
MABROUK!
