Album Notes
"Zallen's music is awesome in scope, covers a lot of ground and different styles with an emerging style of his own. Zallen has obviously paid much attention to the guitar heroes of our time; as well as the best songwriters with elements of greatness in both."--Tony Visconti - Producer (David Bowie, T-Rex, Morrissey)

Two sides to every coin. Whilst advances in recording technology have meant cheaper costs and the inevitable deluge of music recordings out there, the flip side is that it has also allowed talented musicians to deliver great music without having to relying on loan sharks (i.e. major labels) to graciously provide financing for the proverbial “arm and leg”. Yes, that does mean that for every 100 pieces of crap, you may get one album of worthwhile music but its worth the discovery. And that’s where the Power of Pop comes in…

So… may I introduce to you, loyal visitors, Zallen, a one-man recording machine, who has a few albums under his belt and continues to deliver listenable pop-rock in the classic old-school fashion, that is, with melodicism and imagination. Zallen’s new album – Eclectica – naturally lives up to its name, encompassing mid-70s orch pop ala ELO, late 70s Bowie, early post-punk Talking Heads, 80s-era XTC and maybe even 90s Britpop-styled Blur.

What is astonishing is that Zallen records all instruments/tracks ) live into 24-track digital recorder. Believe me, as a musician and recording artist myself, this is an amazing achievement as each song is brilliantly performed, arranged and produced.

With 14 tracks to suit every pop-rock taste, Eclectica is a dream come true for all lovers of pop music, done the way it should be. After all, even the great Tony Visconti (who produced legendary records for T.Rex and Bowie) is a Zallen fan and frankly, I can’t think of a stronger recommendation than that. Except perhaps, mine…

Power Of Pop-Magazine

Zallen Bowiesque space-rock
With hard work, passion and belief, genuine talent will always rise to the top. Not necessarily in commercial terms but those “in the know” will recognise the true pop-artistic value of musicians like Zallen aka Michael Allen Jones. While lesser artists struggle to find a distinctive voice or the technical skill to deliver material of any note, Zallen takes his Bowiesque space-rock into stratosphere with an attention to detail that belies its low-key and austere origins.

Zallen is a prolific artist, having released six albums since 2002, which encompasses most of what passes for classic pop-rock e.g. glam, powerpop – y’know melodic rock ‘n’ roll. On Crash Landing, Zallen’s inventive song-writing continues to shine, keeping things interesting all the way through its thirteen tracks. Permeating through Crash Landing is a keen sense of humour that belies the serious work ethic that Zallen has poured into its creation.

From the opening slinky I Had A Dream (resplendent with cowbell!) to the closing downbeat Blue Monday, Zallen traverses the gamut of pop-rock genres and stylings which will have students of the forms salivating. Listen to Crash Landing as an entire whole and the pleasurable experience will be complete. Good stuff.

Terrific collection of classic Rock music with psychedelic touches
The talented multi-instrumentalist Zallen, has put together a terrific collection of quasi-psychedelic pop/rock on his latest released album, "Crash Landing," that harks back to the days of classic rock, yet still retains a unique voice. "Mission To the Moon" is a fun number with enjoyable lyrics, solid lead vocals, a galloping rhythm, and vivacious drums and guitars. In "Out of Phase" we find more of an antiquated rock and roll beat replete with fiery piano chords and great guitar riffs which compliment Zallen's vocal prowess. "The Last September" is a sharp flowing rock song in which we hear how Zallen's voice delivers strong and melodic tonality. This album is for those who appreciate classic rock music with progressive modern touches and psychedelic expression. It is well produced and each arrangement has a nice dynamic balance between vocals and instruments. Fans of David Bowie or Muse will thoroughly enjoy the well crafted collection of songs of "Crash Landing" by the talented artist Zallen.
