Drawing from a wide range of musical influences and diverse backgrounds, Zama Para has created a sound of their own that no one genre can define. ZP is best described as a “singer/songwriter” band with touches of Rock, Folk and Jazz with some Reggae thrown in to keep things interesting.
Zama Para was originally the solo vehicle for singer and guitarist, Randy Perrone. Having performed his original songs as an acoustic solo act around New Orleans, Louisiana. Wanting to experiment with a larger sound that only a full band could offer, and relying on the internet to advertise for musicians, he was first joined by Fernando Puig, from Caracas, Venezuela, on drums. An experienced musician who has played in several original and cover bands, along with studio work. Fernando was followed by Ole Oddlokken on saxophones. A Norwegian musician who started playing at the age of 9 in local orchestras in Lillehammer, Norway moving on to later play in big bands and blues bands in his hometown.
Randy, Fernando and Ole had played together for a couple of years, when Cal Castillon, a talented singer/guitarist, from Kenner, Louisiana joined the band. Cal is now sharing the lead singing duties with Randy. After a long search, Mike Massel, a bassist/guitarist from New Orleans became the final piece of the puzzle. A seasoned musician who provides groovy bass licks and occasional searing solos on electric guitar.
