Album Notes

Zane Williams is a stubborn believer in doing things the right way, even when it's also the hard way.

As a songwriter he writes fewer songs than most, and it takes him longer, but the songs he does write are timeless and every line holds a reward for the attentive audience. The funny songs are all the more entertaining, and the thoughtful songs all the more touching, because of the care that went into every word. And it's not just his audiences that are taking notice---in the past two years, Zane has won a slew of contests including the John Lennon, CMT/Nashville Songwriter's Association, International Acoustic Music Awards, and Merlefest Chris Austin song contests. Zane is also featured on the "New Voices No Cover" section of CMT's website, and was picked to play in two separate contests at this year's Kerrville Folk Festival.

Zane's uncompromising commitment to quality shines on his new album Hurry Home, released in November of 2006. Financed with $30,000 of his own money saved from touring in the college market, the record is a lovingly crafted work of art that features some of Nashville's finest acoustic musicians playing mandolin, cello, upright bass, and fiddle. The record finds a sweet spot between country, folk, and bluegrass, and has an appeal that is simultaneously rootsy and universal. It will come as no surprise to his fans that the gorgeous album art that was designed and hand-embroidered by Zane himself (with the help of his patient wife!).

Refreshingly, Zane's principles are not limited to his music career. Zane lives what he calls a "non-profit life"---living on a modest yearly budget and putting any and all excess earnings into a charitable fund. He drives a van that runs on recycled vegetable oil, and volunteers frequently with a family of Somali refugees in Nashville. On the road, he is a conscientious performer who is easy to work with and always interested in spending time getting to the know the people he plays for. Zane has a blog which provides a revealing and entertaining window into his world---check it out, and get the latest news at www.ZaneWilliams.info!
