Album Notes

Zej's musical footprints lead deep into the American backcountry, but don't always keep to the borders. His first solo album, Midnight, Montreal, is an upbeat compilation of songs that take the listener on many a dusty road and waterway from Montreal to Amarillo, and from Baton Rouge to Havana. Energizing folk ballads, country riffs, reggae rhythms, and steel drums await the intrepid explorer...

In 1995 Zej entered the Twin Cities music scene as founder and leader of the band Kangaroo, performing in clubs and college venues with band members Robert Everest, Billy Franklin, Melissa Mathews, and Craig Carney. Kangaroo's Juniper and Baobab (1997) featured world-pop fusion, with African, Latin, and American folk influences. In 2000, Zej recorded his first acoustic solo CD, Lost in Eden, in Minneapolis.

Born in Geneva, Zej has lived in Switzerland, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Niger, Sudan, and most recently Paraguay. He now resides in San Francisco, California.
