Album Notes

Zoe Wood grew up in Butte, America. She's been writing a remarkable range of songs since her teens. Her musical styles stretches to include a mixture of lullabys and hard rockin' R&B, chord melody jazz, swing, slide blues, folk ballads, and comedy - edging the envelope of entertainment. Sharing the stage in the past with notables such as Charlie Musselwhite, Susan Tedeschi, Brian Bowers, Utah Phillips, and Kelly Joe Phelps, she continues to perform with the Hot Tamales, Zoe's Garden, and solo.

Zoe is joined by the romping rhythm section of master musician Dave Ricci on upright bass and Fred Jenkins on drums.

Zoe's Garden CD is a sampling from the buffet of talents. An anthology of songs written over the last decade, and the styles range from ballads ("To The Sea"), blues ("Orange County"), lullaby ("Emily"), reggae ("Love Don't Lose Yourself"), All-Americana solid boogie humor ("Strong Back Weak Mind" and "Made in China"), to swing and jazz like "Jump Down Betty", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and the mushroom fancier's favorite song, "Naematoloma".

Zoe Wood is currently performing and recording with the Mango Trio,a Latin-Jazz trio based in Nayarit, Mexico. Their new CD "Creencia" is also available through CD Baby.

If you enjoyed the song Naematoloma, check out "The Fungal Boogie", a scientifically corerct CD of funny songs about mushrooms. PLUS, all proceeds from sales of this recording through the CD Baby website go directly to the support of a children's science center, "Montana Mind Expansion", in Butte, Montana. Some nice blues from a nice gal...
author: Joe Jacobs
Many's the time you pick up a disc like this (purchased directly from the artist at a gig) and you're disappointed. Well, not here. No weak songs at all, and the high points are lyrics with an underlying sense of humor and guitars, both electric and acoustic, which are very present in the mix. They're recorded in a very high quality fashion... which is good because Zoe can flat out pick. Overall the songs are very musical and lyrical with a nice, tight rhythm to each one. This disc turned out to be a very nice surprise indeed. Highly recommended!
