Album Notes

These industry squares say you've got to sum up your band's
sound in one solid, succinct sentence. "It's like falling
in love!". "It's like consuming drugs off the body of a
Vegas cocktail waitress!". "Hot rockin'!". The band said
no to those one-liners, but YES to recording almost all
live, leaving inspired mistakes in, using profanity if
necessary, and going for excitement and feel over accuracy
or precision. I'm not going to go on and on about how
f*;';ng great this band and this album is, because I'm
trying to retain some class in my old age. But these guys
and these songs are TOPS in my world, and now they get to
be TOPS in yours too. Be kind to them, or smack 'em
around a little bit, that's what they're here for...

A strong, fast-paced and riveting series of recordings, strung together seemingly with little effort, and a total pleasure to the senses! I love these guys..i want to party with them (what are we drinking?)! I can't wait for the next CD. These boys should be very big very soon and for long time...!

JOHNNY ZOOM CHEERLEAD SQUAD: HONEY BABY SWEETIE This is the sort of great, unheralded, out-of-nowhere local release that re-energizes a rock 'n' roll fan's faith. If that sounds like hyperbole, it's not. With Rolling Stone proclaiming ``Rock Is Back!'' (as if it would know), the Johnny Zoom Cheerlead Squad, along with fellow Tampa band The Washdown, should be hailed as rock 'n' roll gods. ``Honey Baby Sweetie'' is raw, fast and smart, a dozen songs in 35 minutes. Influences are plentiful but so well-absorbed and varied as to render the sound original. Guitarist Zoom's lyrics concern sex, isolation, um, sex - hell, who cares what he's singing about when he sings this well? The production force feeds garage rock through Sun Studios' echo chamber for a sound as raunchy as the Hives but with a weirdly engrossing depth. This is as deeply satisfying a disc as has been heard all year.

Hard not to write about the artist, but this is a fresh sound that needs to be heard. Brings back some of the old.(Chachi,Joannie, Mrs. C) How neat is that! Thanx for the clean sound that nobody else has. Am looking forward for more of the same...

No seriously. Really. Serious. I'm serious. Really. Um, yeah. This CD forking rocks. Everyone else sucks compared to them. Especially the Hives. They know all about.. arpeggios, and trembolos, and virtuosos.. Yeah, they know it all. But I gotta take a shower. And my eyes kinda burn. But don't listen to too much of 'em, 'cuz j00 know what they say.. "Too much of a good thing is an awesome thing, and too much of an awesome thing is.. um, really, really, dumb. And bad."
