Album Notes

Zoot Rudy is a 5-piece pop- and folk-influenced rock band. The Bellingham-based Zoot Rudy's first CD is titled Making Time Stand Still.

Making Time Stand Still contains twelve original tunes. Lyrics are strong, with themes running a wide gamut, from whimsically political ("Stop Reading, Start Eating") to simply whimsical ("Mademoiselle"), from romantic ("Man in the Moon") to meditative ("Make Time Stand Still"). Other songs offer insights into difficult personal relationships ("Thin Blues Line"), as well as question difficult political relationships ("No Deposit, No Return").

Musically, too, Making Time Stand Still cuts a wide swath, each style given a finely wrought interpretation, whether the folk-rock power of "Heart's Desire," the country-rock flavor of "Are You Going?," or the elegant balladry of "Tell Me You Love Me." Echoes of reggae and swing are also apparent in this pleasingly balanced CD.

Live, Zoot Rudy are about energy and fun. Their original tunes sound familiar even on first listen. Moreover, Zoot Rudy has an infectious sense of humor. Tongue-in-cheek tunes like "What Will Your Address Be (after World War III)" get audiences singing along, even if they've never heard the song before. Supplementing their diverse mix of original tunes, Zoot Rudy also perform covers from a variety of artists, including Green Day, Natalie Imbruglia, the Beatles, Lucinda Williams, REM, and the Pretenders.
