From the beginning, ZOX has managed to build cohesion out of contrast. Look no further than the band’s twin frontmen: one is a tattoo-covered conservatory violinist with a history of trashing dressing rooms at Carnegie Hall, & the other a buttoned-down Type-A who turned down an offer from Stanford Law School to keep up the band. As one, they’ve thrived in the chaotic wilderness of the internet underground, developing the rare skill of writing meaningful, memorable pop songs characterized by a *truly* unique sound. Featured are an electric violin run into a guitar amp (the Village Voice once described ZOX’s violinist as “Eddie Van Halen meets Papa John Creach”), earnest, vivid lyrics, & a rhythm section that seems to swing effortlessly between musical styles.
Their first two albums, released independently, sold over to 40K copies—“The Wait”, mixed by legendary producer Mitch Easter of R.E.M. fame, ranked #7 Billboard Top Internet Album when it was released in ’05—garnered a buzz that opened up many doors: signage to LA’s Side1DummyRecords (Gogol Bordello/Mighty Bosstones/Flogging Molly) & booking agents CAA, along with numerous TAXI placements, including 12+ tracks sprinkled throughout MTV shows The Real World, Road Rules, & Maui Fever. Capitalizing on this momentum, ZOX, continuing their grassroots tradition, immediately hit the road showcasing at SXSW, performing at the legendary Reading & Leeds festivals in the UK, & adding to their log of over 1,000 live shows, touring with everyone from the Warped Tour to Rusted Root.

I can't stop listening to this album!!!
author: Amy Hurwitz
When I first bought this album and put it into my stereo, I didn't think that 1) I'd listen to the entire album straight through in one sitting and 2) it would still be in my stereo these months later. Every song on this CD plays to a different mix of emotions and feelings and thus, appeals to me no matter what mood I'm in. The mixture of provocative lyrics (that I can deeply related to), the exciting and heart-thumping drum beat (with strategic drum rolls that rip me out of my seat--if i'm still sitting down that is), an active bass line and of course, the ridiculous and inspiring violin lines and solos in every song make this album one of a kind.

MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES VIOLIN-LACED ROCK
author: Justin Ware
This is an amazing album. I saw ZOX live a few weeks ago, and I bought it there, it's been frequenting my CD player ever since. The songs on this album are beatifully written by a romantic with a unique and absolutely awesome voice. My favorite song is ANYTHING BUT FINE, because it is your everyday love song, but not quite, if that can make sense. It uses simple words to say what others have said, but the way they are combined has such an effect that leaves you overcome with emotion. The lyrics and the vocals, though, do by no means stand alone, backed by the most awe-inspiring violin that I have ever heard. At times it's hard to tell that it is a violin. For example the beginning of BIG FISH has a violin introduction that upon first hearing it at the concert, all I could think of was a siren. Backed by energetic percussion that adds a perfect and unique beat and rhythm to each and every song, but it is definitely not overpowering. The guitar blends everything together, and gives the music the rock and roll feeling that accompanies some of the most beatiful music I have ever heard. Dave Matthews Band meets Dispatch meets Led Zepplin meets classic voiolin meets love. The perfect album for anyone who likes rock and has ever been in love, with someone else, with life, with music. Pick it up, you won't be dissappointed.
