Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment is currently working around the San Francsco Bay Area playing Eastern European acoustic hybrid music that is simultaneously energetic, subtle, and frenetic, and has been described recently as harmonious cacophony. Zoyres’ music represents the geo-social analogue to the biochemical ferment; their music, of Eastern European origin, brined in the contemporary cultural milieu, is akin to the pickle, still evident in its cucumbral origin, but with a taste and texture transformed.
The current lineup of musicians includes Liam Staskawicz on Trombone, Jonathan Russell on Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet, Mike Perlmutter on Alto, Bari Sax and Clarinet, Joshua Sirotiak on Tuba, and Ed(Word) Pollard on Drums, Percussion and Samples
Their 2008 release \"Biserka!\" celebrates the Zoyres energy and sound: complex and catchy, dynamic and dancy, down-home and dirty, alternately cerebral and simple, dark and delightful. Drawing from Eastern European folk music, free improvisation, jazz, rock and drum & bass, the Zoyres recipe is a fusion non-pareil; an exciting new taste from Old World flavors.
