Zru Vogue returns with a brand new concept album “The Exile,” that explores surrealist themes of insect love, undersea origins, and escape from mundane normalcy into a world of strange and wonderful creatures.
But is it a metaphor? And if so, for what? The need for the artist to escape the humdrum daily chores of life? The desire to leave behind the sane world of normals and re-invent a life based on fantasy and illusion? Or do these songs tell of something darker, and deeper… a mysterious other life that co-exists with this one, an alternate universe where mother fish and insect queens dominate the landscape?
Whatever the case, the music speaks for itself: a throbbing rhythm-fest steeped in funk and electro grooves, sprawling synthesizer lines, Zruphonic bass lines, and layers of percussion.
This is Zru Vogue doing what they do best: art-funk for thinking humans and other creatures.
"This is how it feels
To reveal the truth
This is what it means
To require the proof
This is who you are
When you cease to be you
This is what it’s like
When you do the Zru"

I love the new album and can't stop listening to it. It's like "My Life In The Bush Of Kafka." Or perhaps what would happen if Bootsy & Busta joined forces with the Flaming Lips. You guys funk & rock.

The Exile: Zrulicious near-death adventure.

More of the Same Brilliance.
Oo-ga-oo-gakka-oocha. That’s how this experience begins. The music of Zru Vogue pulses, flows and consumes. There is leaving and returning and death, and somehow, insects. Fleeting layers of imagery, never to be repeated in just the same way; it seems the sounds of this album were caught fluttering in a bell jar and laid down, still quivering, in these tracks. Andy and Rick have climbed to a new level. Andy’s voice spans his range from devil growl to high innocence, rising, sinking, surfing atop his relentless undulating lyrics. Sitting on the edge of their sound is a lonely, cold place to be; so you dip your feet, and slide in, joining them in the fragrant, steamy water. Listen to Escape From More of the Same or Pagoda Mother Fish or any of the eleven hypnotic tracks from The Exile, and you will understand.

These guys just amaze me; just when you think they've made their best CD they come out with something that blows your mind. These guys (Rick and Andrew)have a masterpiece on their hands with Exile. Funky, electronic, experimental beats, rhythms, and rhymes that will keep you listening again and again. These guys are on a creative roll, and I hope they keep on going. Highly recommended!
