Album Notes

Hey friends! Thanks so much for visiting the site. I'm Julie Kiesler de Zuluaga, the singer and songwriter of this album, "For the Praise of Your Glory." Over the past few years God has made some radical changes in my life. He is truly the reason I wrote this album. It takes you on my journey of coming to know God, understanding who He is in my life, and how knowing and loving Him changes every part of who I am and what my purpose is here on this earth.

I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior, my Maker, and my Lord when I was 11 years old. But it was until my 20's that I really started to hand Him over all my plans and dreams for my life, and truly ask Him what His plans were for me. That's when my journey began.

I'm now 27 and have been serving in missions overseas for four years. I met my husband, Edgar, while studying Spanish in Costa Rica. Edgar is from the coast of Colombia. We've been married now for nearly two years. You'll hear a lot of the musical influence he has had in my life through the latino rhythms on the album.

In 2007, my husband and I were inspired to work on this music project as a way to raise support for the mission work we are doing in Costa Rica and Colombia, South America.

Part of our work involves supporting a community of 500 displaced families (due to the violence) in a community called Villa Katy in Colombia. We are reaching out to over 200 children offering them a meal each week along with other needs such as school supplies, basic toiletries, and clothing, and most importantly sharing with them a message of hope and love.

We also work in low-income communities in Costa Rica through construction projects, medical clinics, installation of water purification systems, as well as meeting basic needs such as food and clothing.

My motivation for writing the album was the dream that by using my gift to sing and to write, we could reach out to hundreds of people without resources, without a way out, and without hope. May this cd truly give God glory!

Thanks for supporting this music project and this dream!

Sincerely,

Julie Zuluaga

Blending Latin pop with contemporary worship music, this collection of spiritual songs succeeds by concentrating not just on the lyrics and the vocals, but also on the music. Utilizing a large band clearly adept at a variety of styles, Zuluaga is able to spread her strong, passionate vocals over a diverse mix of horns, strings, and plenty of percussion. It makes for a positive, celebratory, and multifaceted sound that is sincere but also more than willing to have a bit of fun. "For The Praise of Your Glory" and "I Am" are both ostensibly straight ahead pop worship songs, but the use of driving acoustic guitar and well placed (and full) background vocals gives them both depth and texture. Not afraid to take things in different directions, "Good God" works off a reggae groove, and "Psalms 103" showcases some leanings toward a zydeco sound. Of course, all of this is held together by Zuluaga's vocals and lyrics, which are hopeful and compassionate, a great match for the feel of the music. In addition, she gets back to her roots and sings the final song on the album in Spanish. It all adds up to a very distinct group of songs and a fantastic variety of spiritual music.
