Paul Zunno, renowned for his lighting fast hands on the guitar and soulful singing, grew up in East Northport, Long Island. The self-taught blues/rock guitarist has led a sterling career performing with giants of the music world. In addition to playing alongside some of the music industry's top professionals his songs can be heard in film and television.
Zunno held the distinct honor of playing lead guitar for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wilson Pickett. He appeared on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' in support of Pickett's last album and performed in the Miramax film, 'Only the Strong Survive'; a movie about legendary soul singers. Zunno toured throughout the U.S., Europe and Australia with Wilson Pickett for seven years until his passing in 2006.
Paul Zunno has also written and recorded songs for Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame inductee Gary U.S Bonds including 'Christmas is On', featured in 2007's holiday film 'A Merry Little Christmas'. His music has been licensed for television, including MTV's 'The Real World' and most recently on Fox's 'So You Think You Can Dance'
Zunno has released three diverse albums for Charm City Records that incorporate blues, rock and authentic roots music; 'The Honeybee', 'Black & White and Blues All Over' and 'Paul Zunno - Solo Acoustic'. Americana Homeplace included the "Solo Acoustic" CD in their top picks for 2008. His music receives international radio airplay.
In 2008, he released the single, 'Hold Me Up - Benefit for 9/11 First Responders' with all proceeds from the sale of the song being donated to the FealGood Foundation. The FealGood Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to ill 9/11 first responders. 'Hold Me Up' was hand picked from his solo acoustic CD and re-worked into a full band version.
In 2009, Zunno released his rocking Holiday single, 'Tis the Season to Be Loving You. The song was originally written for Gary U.S. Bonds and was decidedly produced with a nod to Wilson Pickett. The credits on the song include a who's who in the music business from touring band members of Lenny Kravitz, James Taylor and The Rolling Stones to session players for Avril Lavigne and Brittany Spears as well as Grammy nominated engineers.
Paul Zunno has performed at festivals and theaters throughout the United States and Canada as a solo artist and with his band. He has truly earned his reputation as an outstanding live performer with his combination of 'stories behind the music' and a downright blow-the-roof-off-joint execution and technique as a guitarist. Southland Blues Magazine describes him as, "Borne from the blues, tempered by rock with gritty vocals and a magic guitar."
Zunno has lived New York City for the past 20 years and is currently performing his solo acoustic concert in a residency at New York City Center Studios in Manhattan.

New Yorker Paul Zunno put together a real solid album here.

I've seen him live many times and he skillfully catches the energy and moods of his more acoustically-oriented shows. "Say Yeah" kicks in with a little Dylan-esque style romp, which sets the tone for the disc. Zunno also cut a great version of his own classic "Charlotte", easily the centerpiece of the album, and one of his strongest written songs about a unique crush on a woman in the world's oldest profession. He also throws in high energy blues ("Buzzin," "Fire Alarm"), some mellow folk rock on "Blue Sky", and slower, darker tunes such as "Always Do", and "Everybody's Girl."

Somehow, it all works!

Ecclectic, but not confusing. You start out feeling that Zunno is a capable interpreter of classic americana, but when you get to "Everybody's Girl" - you recognize his vocal ability, "Buzzin" - his guitarplaying, "This Love" - his songwriting skills, and "Fire Alarm" - his knack for arrangements. A total pro.

Sweet as honey

This CD is tough to classify. So I won't. I can say that I like what I hear. I find myself humming the songs for days after I hear them. That's not to say that they are merely "catchy" tunes. Zunno's lyrics speak to the average Joe - a refreshing departure from much of popular music today. This music is honest and begs not for a stadium, but for the intimacy of a small club. The hints of Jazz and Blues influence would be lost in the vast space. Zunno's voice, raspy and sweet, is never over the top, but an instrument that complements the arrangements nicely. The tracks range from the meloncholy "EveryBody's Girl" to ever-optimistic "Blue Skies", while "Buzzin'" showcases a bit Zunno's guitar prowess. I am looking forward to hearing more.
