Album Notes

Fronted by the 2 man writing, production and performance duo, Zwei, 2'sday Night is a re-visting of Zwei's first two albums, The 2, and 2'sday. It introduces 3 new talents in the form of; The Bros.-a band of brothers with funk, gospel, hip-hop, and jazz roots, Kyle Funn-a trumpeter with jazz/funk sensibility and style, and SolEdler-a truly unique male vocalist with his own debut project making its own noise in the R&B/Soul community.

Zwei's purpose for this project was to bring their show to disc and let fans and new listeners know exactly how high-powered their shows can be.

Where are the tickets to the show

This Cd is worth the time out to listen. Completely original unlike no other. To know every instrument was recorded live no dubbing or bouncing tracks is good thing. The vocals work hand in hand like they should. No question, about it to hear them perform live on a Cd only makes you want to go and see them perform. Pat 2GA1

An amalgam of soul, jazz, and funk, Zwei’s 2’sday features strong musicianship, imaginative and melodic songwriting, and infectious grooves. Not afraid to showcase the multidimensionality of black music, Zwei deserves much praise for skillfully blending diverse musical elements into a cogent and cohesive whole. Equally impressive is the duo’s quality songwriting. Every song on the CD tells an interesting story and commands interest on its own. Various subjects are explored on this live set, but most of the album centers on the beauty, pain, frustration, disappointment, and anger experienced by those in and out of love. Opening the set with the up-tempo “U Street Blues,” Zwei not only recounts the group’s beginnings but provides a window into the city’s independent music scene. Talented trumpeter Kyle Funn then eases the band into the most impressive tune on the album, “Souled Out,” which examines a troubled woman’s unsuccessful search for tranquility and happiness. Such lines as “she believes in solitude and sanity/ but unaware of how these things are achieved/ wasted on a vile, a pipe or a bottle/ and poured out empty/ her heart is souled out” evoke feelings of sympathy rather condemnation. Situating this woman’s individual struggle within a larger context, Zwei reminds us of how much our own redemption hinges on our ability to not only connect with and provide spiritual healing for such individuals, but confront own spiritual emptiness. Nearly five minutes into the song, Funn delivers an incredible solo which may remind jazz lovers of Russell Gunn’s beautiful playing on his recent live release, Ethnomusicology: Vol. 4: Live in Atlanta. Other standouts on the album include “Crush,” “Alone,” and the amazingly beautiful “Withdrawal.” An appropriate closer, “Withdrawal” chronicles the painful last stages of a failed relationship as well as proves the band’s willingness to let their guard down and show their emotional vulnerability. Anyone who appreciates strong songwriting and live musicianship will certainly enjoy Zwei’s 2’sday.

Funky live album

This is a superb live album. Funky & retro, real instruments etc, they just don't make music like this anymore. Hints of Mint Condition & Funkiphino (also available on CD Baby.) Standout track is "Won't Play Your Game" but there are several other great tracks & the rest of the album grows on me with every play

My favorite cuts from the cd are Remedy and Withdrawl with Wish I Wasn't Bout ...it pulling up a close third. Overall, it was nice. It gave me a "grounded in my DC roots" kinda feeling. I do want "The Two" though...
