Carmine D'Amico - Official Biography(copyright 2008)
His skills have been showcased on stage, on records, in movie and television soundtracks, and on commercials that most of us have heard and taken for granted. 24 Grammy Awards validate that Carmine represents "THE school" of music, in which the ability to successfully play one's part has been the key to outstanding performance. In today's music world, where it is sometimes sufficient to merely know a few chords and licks in order to make a recording, Carmine stands out as a true student of music and an incredible talent whose flexibility and ability are legendary!
The Early Years
" ...Make each note a diamond." That's what his father, Joseph D'Amico, jazz trumpet player, and working musician, said to him when he was seven years old. Carmine has never forgotten those words. He gave Carmine the choice of playing either the piano or the guitar. The senior D'Amico also told him not to be concerned about how many notes he played when he would solo, but that each note must have meaning. His father would sit with him every night, teaching Carmine various musical styles, reading skills, guiding him,and encouraging him to be the best musician he could be.Joe D'Amico was a perfectionist and he instilled that quality in Carmine.About living with such high standards,Carmine states, "Sometimes it's a burden, but it's always motivating".
At age 9, Carmine recorded "Who Wears Short Shorts," and it became a big hit. He was then signed to ABC-Paramount Records(a subsidiary of Capitol Records)and went on tour. Performances included American Bandstand with Dick Clark, The Allen Fried Show, Soul Train, as well as concerts. Carmine ultimately wound up doing "50's" hit records at the ages of 9, 10, and 11 with the Shirelles, Connie Francis,The Crests,Bo Diddley,Fabian,Frankie Avalon,Neil Sedaka,Carol King,The Royal Teens,Sessions with Teddy Randazzo,Sammy Fields,Jim Fogelsong,King Curtis, and his studio band.
When Carmine was in school, he won Academic scholarships to Private Grammar schools, high school and college. He graduated valedictorian of Most Holy Trinity High School with a 99.9 average, winning 10 academic medals with one exception. Carmine found himself pre-med because his father was not confident that anyone could make a living in the music business.Carmine's father wanted him to be a doctor. However, when his medical professors at Albert Einstein School of Medicine found the young man composing songs during his classes, they suggested that he do what really made him happy - music.
With his father's reluctant blessings,Carmine left medical school, transferred to Queens College and majored in music. Despite the fact that he could not attend classes regularly, and was rarely there,as he was touring with a variety of performers including - Tammy Grimes,Liza Minelli,Ed Ames,Gregory Hines,Frankie Laine, and Vic Damone.Carmine nonetheless managed to graduate with an "A" average, and received his B.A. in Music Education. As Queens Coolege,Like Juilliard, specialzed in only Classical Repetoire, unlike The Berklee School of Music in Boston.MA,which dealt with all forms of contemporary Music,Carmine found Queens college to be the wrong direction for him Personally.Carmine needed a college that did it all,not just one genre.
Military Bands
Upon graduating college during the Viet Nam era,Carmine's military service eligibility status immediately changed to a "1-A" draft classification. He entered military service and was accepted into an assignment with a special Army Swing Band. He had no idea that he was going to be stationed in Viet Nam and Guam; or, that he would be working with Bob Hope,Suzanne Summers, and a wide variety of other performers supporting troop morale via USO shows. Carmine returned to New York upon honorably completing his tour of duty and resumed his career activities, first joining Tammy Grimes(Ms.Grimes was the star of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" on Broadway at this time),as her personal guitarist, then Ed Ames.
Musician To The Stars
While with Ames, Carmine recorded with the artist at RCA Records on two of his biggest hits, "Try To Remember," and "My Cup Runneth Over" in New York.Ed Ames had Carmine play Ed's personal classical guitar on the songs, under Jim Fogelsong,Ed's Producer.Carmine then went on the road with Ames, under the Musical Directorship of Norm Geller, pianist, arranger, conductor.Norm then continued conducting, and arranging for a wide variety of artists like Vic Damone.Robert Goulet,Carol Lawerence,Lanie Kazam etc.Norm later became The Main Concert Room Conductor at several Las Vegas resort hotels, and contined his prestigous career in Las Vegas. When Ames got called to co-host with Mike Douglas on his nationwide television show, he brought Carmine along with him. Carmine was asked to continue on the show as staff guitarist. He remained on staff on that show for 3 years. The show was national, under the leadership of Joe Harnell,(Musical director of "Name That Tune" and composer of "Fly me to the Moon))and later Joe Massamino,piano/arranger/conductor.
During this same period, Carmine met Emery Davis, son of society bandleader, Meyer Davis. He worked for Davis doing "society parties" all over the world, like the opening of Paradisie Island in the Bahamas,The opening of The Kentucky Derby,Private Parties for The Kennedy's in MA.Private Parties for Mayor's
of NY,Rudy Gulianni,Mayor Koch,Mayor Lindsay,Governor of NY, Mario Cuomo,all at Gracie Mansion,the Mayor's Residence,and Albany,NY,the seat of the New York Goverment.Carmine played for all these Presidents,Vice Presidents,Governors,and Mayors. When Davis took over as contractor of the Westbury Music Fair, Carmine also worked with Bobby Darrin ("Mack, the Knife"),Perry Como,Dana Valerie,Bob McGrath(Sesame Street),Judy Collins, Sergio Franchi,and his tours,Patti Austin's recordings,Englebert Humperdinck's recordings,(with whom he recorded "After The Loving"),Vic Damone's recordings,Manhattan Transfer,Shirley Maclaine(Live at The Gershwin Theatre).While Carmine lived in LA,He played guitar on "The Joey Bishop Show",Rowan,and Martin's "Laugh in",Henry Mancini's recordings,TV Specials with Andy Williams,Charo,Comedians Dick Shawn,Buddy Hackett,Sid Cesar,and Imogene Coca,then:Michele Legrande's Recordings(Carmine played guitar on the movie's,TV,and CD's of "The Summer Of 42","Theme for Brian Piccolo","Summer me,Winter me",)In NY; Bernadette Peters,The Pointer Sisters,Recordings,and TV specials with Bobby Vinton,The O'Jays,TV Specials with Bill Cosby,Jack Jones,Billy Eckstein,Alan Jones,Lainie Kazan,Carmine played guitar,and conducted the band for vocalist Jane Olivor,Elisa Kashi's recordings,Connie Francis'recordings,TV shows with Regis Philbin,Julie Budd,Recordings for Dolce,Nancy Sinatra,Arthur Godfrey,Dennis James,and the Cerebal Palsy Telethons conducted by Anthony Cabot,and his orchestra,Frank Sinatra Jr.,The Four Seasons,with Frankie Valli,Bob Gaudio,David Lynch,David Shire,Joan Baez,Lana Cantrell,Leslie Gore,Mary Travis,and Peter Paul,and Mary,The "Today Show" on NBC TV,Mariah Carey's recordings,Marianne Faithful,and her recordings,{produced by famed guitarist Keith Richards),Recordings for Tony Sandler,of Sandler and Young,Joel Grey,Daniel Friberg,and his Latino recordings,Tito Puente's Latino Recordings,Ray Baretto,and recording with famed guitarist Carlos Santana.

The Hits Keep Coming
Another string of successful projects seemed to begin when Carmine's old friend, Teddy Randazzo, called him for an album for Walter Murphy, called "A Fifth Of Beethoven." Carmine's old Queens College schoolmate, Marvin Hamlisch, composer of "Chorus Line" and the theme song from the movie "Ice Castles," called Carmine to do a concert tour with him. This opportunity led to Carmine directly working in the traditional Jazz arena with Mel Torme, along with Mel Lewis and Thad Jones. He also recorded several albums with both, Mel Torme and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Band.

I've had You Speak to Me in My Dreams for a bout two months now. I came back to say this album is so awsome I refuse to go anywhere without it. I am a lover of guitar music. I go by feel. How the music speaks to me is so important to my well being. for instance I heard another guitarist, Esteban, his playing...maybe its the way the cd was made or maybe it is just himself, but he lacks fire and passion. Maybe he is someones project or maybe he has a lousy manager. He sounds like he is playing because he has been ordered to. When Charo plays you can almost see the passion rising from the guitar. When Carmine is playing. MAN! my head starts to bobbin, and I start doing that chicken neck move to the FEELING. Estabans music is nice. Carmines music is Bangin'. I make sure his album is in my car before I go any where. aw don't get me started. "Twilight" mm mm mm . Carmine plays that guitar like he's making love to it. Esteban needs to cut loose and put his heart and soul into his music. Booski Brown

Listening Carmine, a true musical master lifts my spirit
author: Joe Dex, MusicianFirst I see the reviews of some of the greatest living musicians in the world reviewing Carmine's music and that just in itself is humbling. As a fan of all music, the best way for me to review Carmine's music is simple, it is the apex of what music is and can be. It has every element top level music can be. And the CD has a fabulous range of style. The CD starts with "Sacrifice", catchy syncopated rythums with lush beautiful sonic texturing. Then "Twilight", a wonderful point-counter point between piano and guitar with a beutiful etheral beginning. "Does It Ever Rain" has a more agressive jazz guitar with a more cosmic syth underpinning. "Kitty", a wonderful mood piece with soulful vocals. "Angel" has a heavy rock influence with a very passionate lead guitar. "You Are So Beautiful" is a stunning tradition guitar arrangment which reminds me of the late guitar master Herb Ellis. "Life Is Short" has a funky Latin rythym and backing horn texture. "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" is a traditional jazz standard with a beutiful "Benson-esque" delivery. "Song For My Father" is simply my personal favorite taking a classic electric lead over an acoustic rythum that simply is divinely inspired. "So Many Stars" has a beautiful melodic over a beutiful acoustic rythum. And "You Speak To Me In My Dreams", a solo guitar masterpiece! Thank You Carmine for being a gift to the music world and to music fans alike and for sharing it with us. Your music brings out the best in who ever it touches.
A guitar master who has been heard by many but known by few.
author: BillPI really enjoyed the songs. I have a prejudice towards clean sounds, and acoustic instrumentation so I really enjoyed "You are so beautiful". I loved the chord work, and the bass string runs. It reminded me of other guitar masters like: Joe Pass, Lenny Breau, and Chet Atkins. The next two songs: "Does it ever rain in Heaven?" and "Angel" were more electric than I generally like, but my preference was "Angel" which I really did enjoy. "Life is too Short" is a song that I replayed a couple of times because I really liked it. The latin rhythm was full of energy and drive, so good that I was almost disappointed when the lyrics were delivered in English rather than Portuguese or Spanish. Each band member was able to showcase his or her talent, and Carmine's tasteful guitar enhanced the overall sound beautifully. Carmine's rendition of Horace Silver's "Song for my Father" was excellent. I used to have a really good George Benson version of this song on tape that I've lost somewhere over the years, but I really enjoyed Carmine's version. It was good enough to tempt me to start looking for my missing Benson tape, but then again, all I need to do is listen to Carmine's version and I might forget the Benson version altogether. "Breaking up is Hard to do" was great. I happen to really like that melody. I did enjoy Carmine's phrasing which brought out the feeling beautifully. I remember back in the 70's Neil Sedaka re-released this as a slow song rather than the bouncy tune that it was when it was first released years earlier, and I loved it then. I sometimes think that Neil Sedaka's contribution to the music of the 60's and 70's has not been fully appreciated. All in all, if you want to hear one of the true masters of guitar; someone who can effortlessly glide through the genres from rock to jazz to latin, get the cd.
I really dislike guitarists that play better than me.

author: Teo MaceroI was the head CEO of Jazz for Columbia Records, later Sony Records.I am now the CEO of my own label Teorecords.com.I discovered all the stars of jazz,Miles Davis,Charles Mingus,Lionel Hampton, and Carmine D'Amico, guitar virtuoso.I once had Carmine replace in a mixing room at Columbia Records an entire string section(40 musicians) violins, viola, celli,by himself because there was too much leakage from another guitarists' wah wah.Carmine deserves a major label for his music,if they still exist. He is so muti-fauceted that if I said play Orange,he could find a way,and it would sound naturally orange. So,if you don't like buying cd's,go to any of his 38 download sites and spend some money on one very talented guitarist, mandolinist, and bassist named Carmine D'Amico.Teo Macero

Fantastic musician, true gentleman, has become like a mentor
author: Joel Pirard, (JDA)Carmine's music and talent have truly inspired me. One listen to this work (I was priveledged to get some to the tracks to hear before they were fully mastered, and they were already brilliant.) Recently I have had the pleasure of making a personal aquaintance with him, he has graciously offered advice, assistance and several interesting anecdotes about his musical life, he has shown me a genuine interest in my band's (JDA)music, and has called me his friend, and I am honored. His music is personal, intelligent, melodic, and heartfelt. The musical talent and ability is self-evident, and the Ensemble kicks ass! The musicians he plays with are amazing, and complement each other superbly, and also, although it is clearly Carmine's band, he is generous in his arrangements, allowing the players to shine as well. Carmine's variety of styles are mixed in his approach to the playing, the sounds of the guitar itself varied and original, no doubt a testament to his incredible resume, and diverse musical experiences throughout his career. But the title track is one of intense personal emotion, and tribute, and that alone is worth the price of the CD. Carmine's music is like him, gracious, talented, interesting, and friendly. I am proud to say he is my friend.

The two minute clips do not show Carmine's Artistry. They don't show how he reall
author: George D.,Jazz trumpet.I am a studio trumpet player.Playing horn is a rough gig,but I love it.I listened to clips of this CD "You Speak To Me In My Dreams",and I bought it.I must tell you that the clips do not show the musical artistry of Carmine D'Amico. In fact it basically shows only the beginning of each song, not the entire song.I was reluctant,at first,to buy the cd,because you are not hearing what happens after the two minute clip stops. It truly is an injustice to Carmine,as you don't get to hear him really play his guitar. For instance "Angel" is a Killer. On the clip you hear a bassist in 3/4 time playing an intro, with Carmine playing a sweet clean guitar melody. What happens about half way through the song is the most INCREDIBLE Overdrive Guitar Solo that I have ever heard."Angel" is blow away, not from the two minute clip, but after listening to the whole song,I was in tears-Carmine is absolutely THE BEST Guitarist I have ever heard. He is a MUSICAL LEGEND.The same goes for 'TWILIGHT".Smooth Jazz funky guitar opens the song. Then at the three minute mark Carmine blows away All the "jazz-rock guitarists" in time.(Again you won't hear this in the clip)Too bad that you get only two minutes, which is a misrepresentation of what is really happenning.Carmine D'Amico is absolutely INCREDIBLE.He is The MASTER of any genre in any style.Carmine,Thanks for this FANTASTIC CD.
Carmine D'Amico covers all bases.
author: Kevin Multer, studio guitarist,NYThe NEW CD "You Speak To Me In My Dreams" has it all,let me explain.Guitarist Carmine D'Amico, holder of 16 Grammy Awards for his playing on major hit cd's, developed his own unique style,Carmine,in a single phrase incorporates Smooth jazz,Progressive Rock,Funk,R&B,Urban Soul,Latin, and classical guitar into a NEW GENRE,OR NEW JAZZ.In say "TWILIGHT",Carmine starts with a fusion of Funk, and Smooth Jazz.As the song develops he transforms the same feel into a Progressive Jazz-Rock solo that is totally OUTRAGEOUS,and AWESOME.Carmine is truly a MASTER of the guitar.I have never heard anyone do this transformation without losing the groove,or continuity, nor have I ever heard guitar solos that were the Ultimate in Excitment as Carmine's solos."Angel" is another example. It starts as a Classical Guitar piece then moves from there into a 60 measure burnin' guitar solo that climbs measure by measure into infinity, without losing the original Groove.Carmine's solo on this song is Breathtaking.I bought a copy of this cd.You should make it a Must Buy.You are going to be blown away.

Carmine has his own musical idenity, not a clone of anyone else.
author: Jim Frakes, jazz trumpet5 Excellent!! What I find so refreshing, exciting, invigorating about the Carmine D'Amico Ensemble's New CD "You Speak To Me In My Dreams" (Official Website http://www.carminedamico.com) is the fact that Carmine's playing is Smooth, yet he is not a copycat.I believe he has created a new genre,(never heard before from any musician)or New Jazz, combining jazz, rock, funk, fusion, latin, classical into one style"The Carmine D'Amico Style".I have performed with hundreds of guitarists world wide.No one plays guitar like Mr.D'Amico. He is truly unique in his style of melodic playing, and soloing. We live in an age where musicians sound like a clone of someone else. Not the case with Mr.D'Amico.He has his very own musical idenity. It's unique, impressive, and musically exciting. He commands the guitar, and makes his music speak, and speak it does from "SACRIFICE","TWILIGHT","DOES IT EVER RAIN IN HEAVEN","ANGEL" etc.Ronee D'Amico, his wife, sings with Soul,Melodic Jazz phrasing, and feel, and straight away,my heart sings. - author: Andrew Jackson (Concert Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitarist)
As an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist, I often search for inspiration from other acomplished guitarist's,i.e, Paco de Lucia, Pierre Bensusan, Alex de Grassi, Muriel Anderson, etc. In doing so, I set a high standard for what influences and moves me, thus..leaving a small margin of guitarists for me to listen to. Carmine's guitar and piano work is brillant, detailed, and dynamic. I would have to say, its some of the best work available, and would highly recommend it. Keep in touch Carmine! Sincerely, Andrew
My Musical Analysis of "You Speak To Me In My Dreams"
author: Uncle Tim,guitar publications, method books. When I first Listened to these sound clips.I thought Carmine was going to tease us with a few short clips from his New cd "You Speak To Me In My Dreams".Instead a I got 2 full minutes of each song from the cd.Each 2 minute clip showed me finely crafted music, and well polished songs.I have now bought the entire cd.It was absolutely worth every cent. The collection of songs cover the full gamut with hard hitting guitar lines like the ones in "Does it Ever Rain in Heaven",Sacrifice","Twilight" and "Angel" to soft dreamy melodic streams of music like the melody lines in"You Are So Beautiful","Breaking up is hard to do","Song for my Father" "So many Stars",and "You Speak To Me In My Dreams".I find myself listening to Carmine's melody lines almost like I was going on a trip with him.Carmine usually starts his songs with a mild musical progression and then puts down a lead solo or seconday part which quickly sets the direction of the song.No wasted notes here. His songs have a strong direction and often combine Jazz and Rock sounds.Once the direction is set,you take a small journey as Carmine communicates emotional statements through his tasteful playing.Carmine knows what he wants to say,and gets right down to business.Plesant arrangements of instruments set up very tasteful melodic outbursts.I love it when a guitarist can make you feel like his guitar is talking. Not only does Carmine's guitar talk,it creates down right interesting conversation.Like "ANGEL".The song builds to a crescendo of tasteful interaction of several instuments and carefully controlled melodic statements. The solo on "ANGEL" climbs and slowly releases pent up emotion and conveys the meaning of the song right through the solo.I thought studio guitarists were supposed to be cold and without emotion.Apparently no one told Carmine.Carmine's background as a New York City studio musician is quite apparent as he solos. Each one is is carefully crafted to inject just the right amount of emotion or direction. There is no over playing and the instruments never seem to step on each other, yet each cut has a full sound. He has blended several different guitar styles together but also uses horns piano strings as he does in "Sacrifice",a Masterpiece, and "Life is Too Short" This is not just a nice collection of songs ,but a true Legenday Masterpiece. The cd deserves a home close to the CD player where I can easily find it,but I have managed to listen to it on my computer and now I want to take it with me in my car.I simply cannot get enough of Carmine's Superlative playing. This is an over simplifed statement "GREAT WORK" Carmine .From Uncle Tim,Publisher of guitar method books, and musical publications.

author: Austin ApplegateCarmine D'Amico is an absolute legend and his new CD further demonstrates his mastery of the guitar. "You Speak To Me In My Dreams" is a multi-genre album of standards and originals that will keep you entertained and leave you satisfied. The music is full of tremendous heart and spirit and the playing is purely awesome. Carmine’s approach to the guitar is so fluid, that everything he plays sounds effortless. His melodies are lyrical and smooth, and his soloing is absolutely exhilarating. You must check out this album, it is music at its finest.
When I think about guitar one person comes to mind,Carmine
author: Carl Rigoli, jazz vibest,,drummer, and percussionist.COMMENT=When I think about the guitar, there is only one person who comes to mind and that is Carmine D'Amico. He is MR. Guitar. I met Carmine at the Waldorf Astoria a few years ago when he joined the band playing for big name entertainers and for dance music. He completely blew me away when he started playing his guitar. He was playing way beyond the ability of the members of the orchestra. Carmine had complete command of the guitar and played with such conviction, feeling and with a strong sense of swinging time. We became friends and worked together on many different types of musical venues. After listening to his new CD, You Speak To Me In My Dreams, I am still convinced that he is even greater than ever. On each track, his guitar sings wonderful lyrical melodies, innovating improvisational solos and he is accompanied by superb musicians who, in their own right, are great. Sacrifice,Twlight,Does It Ever Rain In Heaven and Angel, have gone beyond the ordinary standard jazz conception and create a new sense of musical exploration, and a new adventure for the listener to partake in and experience the total musical genius of Carmine. His guitar playing is flawless because he is a master and perfectionist which allows Carmine to use his creativity. His tone is that of a romanticist which totally captures ones soul with a feeling of beauty. His phrasing is extremely lyrical and intonation instills confidence in every note played. "You Are So Beautiful" is one of my favorites and it sends forth a message of great warmth for a special person in his life. "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" was never played so warmly with such conviction that one can feel the message that it is sending forth. "Song For My Father" is another favorite that is a traditional jazz tune that is done with a new feel and cooking style only Carmine could do. Ronee D'Amico is an excellent vocalist, and her original compostion, and lyrics of "Life Is To Short" is very exciting, cooking and dynamic. This track has a continual energetic flow that never lets up and keeps you listening. "You Speak To Me In MY Dreams" is my favorite and Carmine lets it all hang out because this is guitar playing at its finest. He demonstrates how the guitar is masterfully played by the superb artistry of Carmine D'Amico Carl Rigoli West Coast Jazz/Studio Musician- Vibest, Drummer, Percussionest and Composer.

Carmine's Numero Uno
author: Fred Rohan VargasWithout a doubt, Carmine is king. I’ve worked with him on arranging my song, "See The Virgin Islands" and he truly proves to be the genius he reputedly is. His arrangement totally gave a quality that I didn’t imagine could be done. His stellar playing surpasses many of the top 100 guitarists highlighted in Billboard. Talk about a renaissance man of music, Carmine exhibits it so well in his new cd "You Speak To Me In My Dreams." A must for everyone to listen to.

First off, the guitar is silky smooth, production is great, the melody is soaring, especially when the 'heavier' guitar kicks in about half way through, balls out playing there! The whole band cooks. "DOES IT EVER RAIN IN HEAVEN"? CARMINE/RONEE D'AMICO/SALLI OGURI/FRED KIMMEL/CO-COMPOSERS This is like the stuff you hear on CD101.9 in NYC, smooth jazz, but no the slick, over-produced stuff that gets homogenized like so much pap. "TWILIGHT" CARMINE D'AMICO,Composer:This one is a laid back number that has the guitar and piano really feeding off each other. The only way to truly comprehend the quality of their music is auditorily. The positive sonorous tapestry of sound is intense. One experiences it through the heart, mind and soul in ways difficult to describe. The musical genre of "The Ensemble" is loosely classified as Jazz. Yet the musicianship traverses that barrier effortlessly. One can hear Carmine play phrases of Blues, Jazz, Rock, Fusion, Funk, Gospel & other various musical styles, with in a given song. However, they are played tastefully and precisely creating a musical mosaic masterpiece. Go to the official website at http://www.Carminedamico.com. Carmine has had a long career in music, and it continues on with his NEW CD.He is
author: Steve Huey, all music guide.AMG.Artist: Carmine d'Amico Carmine D'Amico carved out a niche in the music business primarily as a session guitarist, beginning his career by playing on the Royal Teens' hit "Short Shorts" at the tender age of nine. After several sessions with Brill Building teen idols like Connie Francis and Frankie Avalon, D'Amico returned to his schoolwork, eventually becoming a music major at Queens College in New York. D'Amico and his bass-playing younger brother Chris became two of the top studio musicians in the city, which also led to several touring engagements. After graduating, D'Amico was drafted into the Army, where he worked with Bob Hope and other USO performers in Vietnam and Guam. Upon his return, D'Amico became the staff guitarist on The Mike Douglas Show, and also worked at the Westbury Music Fair. In 1976, D'Amico received one of his highest profile gigs, the soundtrack to the legendary disco film Saturday Night Fever. This helped lead to additional work with a variety of R&B and urban contemporary artists over the next several years. From there, D'Amico began concentrating on TV and commercial work, also recording with several traditional pop performers. In 2003, D'Amico issued the first album under his own name; The Carmine D'Amico Ensemble featured D'Amico's wife Ronee on vocals and delved into blues-flavored jazz-rock. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide Carmine d'Amico Score:

This CD caught my ear's attention...
author: Christian VigiliaCarmine's original works, along with new renditions of familiar classics such as You are so Beautiful and Breaking Up is Hard to Do, are performed so beautifully which makes it simply a joy to listen to. Most of today's music lack the artistic and musical expression that only highly-skilled musicians can deliver. Carmine and his Ensemble does not fail to deliver in this respect. Highly recommended!

Carmine D'Amico is a MASTER of the guitar!!!!!!!
author: Joe DrumCarmine D'Amico is "Super hot". To say someone is a Master of an instrument is not a light statment.Matery transcends playing in one genre correctly, and perfectly.Carmine D'Amico plays in all genres correctly, perfectly all the time.He is one scarry dude.Reading guitar parts on major sessions is not an easy task.Carmine makes it appear he's sipping a beer.OK,where are his faults;Humility,is a big one, followed by the constant desire to evolve into the New Millennium ,and create the "New Jazz".The song "SACRIFICE" is an example of that. From This Carmine's newest cd "YOU SPEAK TO ME IN MY DREAMS". Listen to a Master at work,Joe Drum
Simply put A GREAT CD.
author: Hunter Hansen from GODS OF MUSICReview by: Hunter Hansen ARTIST: CARMINE D'AMICO ENSEMBLE SONG: DOES IT EVER RAIN IN HEAVEN GENRE: JAZZ /FUNK,R&B,PROGRESSIVE ROCK. SIMILAR: CANNOT THINK OF ANY, REALLY... Impressive, quite impressive. Allow me to begin. This piece, Does It Ever Rain In Heaven?, has to have the most backing I have witnessed in a while. This support is in the form of Carmine D'Amico. This remarkable man is a guitarist who is skilled in his trade, and one who seamlessly blends styles of jazz, rock, and funk into his work. He has received much adulation for his talent, nurtured by years of experience. Not only that, he is also a 16-time Grammy Award winner. Wait, reverse just a little bit. 16 Grammys! But this piece shows that the rewards are well-deserved. This song is a smooth jazz/rock mix that is quite brilliant in all its aspects: performance, composition, and sound quality. The Carmine D'Amico Ensemble (consisting of Carmine D'Amico on guitar, Boris Kozlow on bass,Hartley Singer, backup guitar, Matt Miller on drums, Ronee D'Amico with vocals, and Sally Oguri and Fred Kimmel as co-composers) can really put something together and play it just as well, and this song serves as evidence of that. The piece is centered around Carmine's solid guitar licks as he goes from playing a smooth jazz melody before shifting into more of a rock tune. Even with this change, the entire piece is rock-steady while laying down a serious groove. The drums, bass, and keys also play an excellent part in the song. They never take a lead, but they back up the guitar excellently while giving this piece a super-solid mid-tempo beat. The first half of this song is simply a marvel. Carmine displays his mastery of the guitar with one of the best smooth jazz tunes you'll ever hear. Coupled with professional sound quality, Mr. D'Amico delivers some lush, sustained, and succulent jazz chords straight to your ears. With silky smooth jazz chords floating along with a nice beat, this part is nearly pristine. After a brief break in the piece, Carmine dons his guitar with a rock persona, playing a more driven type of melody. Through this, an undisturbed transition is formed, mixing rock and jazz without stealing continuity. I'll admit, I detest rock, but I used to listen to it a great deal, so I know what sounds good or bad. From what I hear, this tune Carmine delivers is excellent. The melody is more progressive, and well-played. The sound is also well-balanced as to not disturb the flow of the piece. Anyone who listens to this song can easily see how Carmine D'Amico picked up 16 Grammys. Overall, this is a great tune. This piece is more mainstream than what I usually listen to, but it is still brilliant. That means most of you people out there will like it even more. I implore you to give this piece a listen and behold the beauty of such a wonderful jazz/rock fusion. Hunter H. I gave Carmine D'Amico all 10's
author: Jeremy from GODS OF MUSICReview by: Jeremy(GODS OF MUSIC) ARTIST: CARMINE D'AMICO ENSEMBLE SONG: ANGEL GENRE: OTHER / ROCK, FUSION, EXPERIMENTAL, CLASSICAL, MOOD, JAZZ SIMILAR: I HAVE, YET, TO MAKE A COMPARISON The man commands his instrument, and lets the music command...the structure and mood. I am telling you, right now, that it is, VERY...Hard, not to fall, in love, with this cut. I love this song and you must! For a seasoned professional, signed to capitol records at age 9, 'Angel' is a hit! Period. This man's career looks like a 'intense dream' for any recording artist. It is my, well pronounced, pleasure...to review him. MR. D'Amico and his ensemble are of such a cut, that they sit down to create and passively force the listener to become more than a listener, and believe me, if you do not fall in love with this man's playing you are a fool. The guitar licks are a string of diamonds, set against a mother-of-pearl, background...somewhere in harlem. Ha! A limo, in harlem! Angel, is a bluesy-classica-jazz-fusion. It's bite will leave a mark on your earlobe, for REAL. At first, the song starts with Carmine rendering a beautiful classical piece(something in the vein of BACH, perhaps, 'Air on G' or 'Jesu'), on his 'baby'...(I forget the name of the luthier, which, is an error, I will correct.) guitar. Trained by his father (a famous jazzman as well) Did I mention, that he's won 16 grammys? NOPE! Sorry, my faux pas. World renowned, studio guitarist, Carmine D'Amico and his ensemble...deserve SOOO much more. The man is a legend, beyond his own time...he teaches, has a son, whom is also signed to WARNER BROS, (the band is 40belowsummer); he comes from a greatness, and a poverty...that is 'American'. His flavor will enthral, even, the harshest (yup that's a word) of critics...Other must listens are:'Sacrifice','Does it Ever Rain in heaven?', and 'You Speak to me in my dreams'. Point taken, this review sounds...'kiss-ass' for lack of a better cliche; however, I can assure you, that, a bottle of cognac and a good woman...(or man, not to define preferece) and a little Carmine D'Amico's Ensemble...make for a terrific evening. Listen to this Or I will tell your father, what you did with his car last saturday night...those scratches 'weren't always there'. I will be doing an article on this Man and his 'Life's work', which has blown me away...!
