notes
From the opening notes of "Leaving Mississippi" to the ending of "Tender Vittles" come along for a ride into the past with The Houserockers. Charlie O. and The Houserockers are a rockin' Blues Band from Florida with Mississippi roots. Three of it's members grew up together in Meridian Mississippi learning the art of rockin' blues playing at an early age. Now 30 years later Charlie O. has gotten them back together to perform again and to record this C.D. Along with some new members they re-create their old Mississippi sound. If you like some old fashioned lap steel slide guitar or maybe some acoustic mandolin sound check them out, you won't be sorry!

Juke joint blues in the grand Mississippi style.
author: Carl McCaskeyThis CD has some classic juke joint style blues and boogie-woogie with searing steel/slide guitar starting out. On "Leaving Mississippi" the guitar sings through and reminds me a lot of Robert Randolph & The Family Band. But this CD also has nice covers of Don Henley, Jewel and Steely Dan so there's a varied collection. Nalanie Rothrock sings an excellent lead on "You Were Meant For Me" making the songs one of my favorites on the album. Pretzel Logic is a faithful homage to the jazzy rock Donald Fagan and Walter Becker created plus a great guitar backing as a bonus. Although mostly cover songs, there are a couple of original songs that are quite good. Overall, this album covers several genres, never quite going completely in one direction or another giving the listener a sample of the variety Charlie O. & The Houserockers offer. I sincerely hope that they do release another album in the future. I also would love to hear Nalanie Rothrock belt out some cool blues a la Koko Taylor. I got a taste of Ms. Rothrock's talent and I want more.
