notes
Esculator Music is an interesting collage of soundscapes, musical styles and cultures. The album represents the various musical backgrounds of its collaborators, Robbin J. Harris and Toby Mak. Chishti is in essence these two individuals; musician, composer, producer, and record label owner Robbin J. Harris from the USA/Canada and musician, composer and co-producer Toby Mak from Australia.
This debut album from Chishti creatively depicts the impressions that were absorbed by Robbin J. Harris and Toby Mak during their prolonged stay in the hectic city of Hong Kong. The two musicians formed Chishti after getting acquainted with one another during some unrelated performances that brought their talents together. It was these first meetings that led to a strong musical bond which resulted in the creation of the album Esculator Music. An integral part of this bond was the shared vision of a stylisticly unconstrained record. By blending the different styles and vibes they had acquired from their separate musical paths they definitely achieved that goal which is embodied in the compositions of Esculator Music.
Chishti seamlessly weaves House, Drum and Bass, Bop, Dub, and Ambient into a wonderful concept album taking the listener on a journey through one of Asia's most cosmopolitan cities.

THIS STANDS ALONE IN THE GENRE
author: JACKITALENT X 3!! THESE GUYS DO IT ALL...I REALLY DID EXPERIENCE AN AUDIO TOUR OF A DAY IN KONG KONG. THIS CD PUSHES THE ENVELOPE & CRAWLS RIGHT IN. NOT A BACKGROUND CD..YOU GOTTA SIT DOWN & LISTEN TO THIS ONE!!
The experience is like listeninng for the first time.
author: Marcus MiliusA fresh approach to an over played idiom. As a fellow jazz musician I appreciate and applaud the the risks taken in this music. It will provide an exciting listening experience for the musician or non-musician as a listener.
great Cd, really nice trip on this disc
author: Bob GonzalesThe Cd really flows nicely and even though I have never been to Hong Kong I can get an idea of it, but also I loved the electronic style done by live musicians it is nice to here, sounds a little like tim haggans last blue note effort.I hope the group does another disc soon.
I love this disk and you will also. Check it out!
author: Todd MatthewsA good variety of fresh sounds that take the listener on a pleasant journey. Nice work!
great music, great musicianship, pretty, delicate, heavy, soulful, you must hear
author: Dumenormally I'm not a fan a jazz. I think jazz lately has become to intellectualized and to deriviate(every horn player reuse Coletrain's licks, every drummer play like Max Roach ect..). this Cd however is unique CHISHTI didn't set out to sound like anyone else. usually I just listen to music but this music i felt.
A step up
author: ScottIt's great to see such talented artists coming out with this kind of music when the rest of the world is focused on the pop/rock culture. This CD has seen more play than any of my recent purchases. Phenominal.
Refreshing and original! A creative portrait of one of the world's most vibrant
author: Lady M ProductionsRefreshing and original! A creative portrait of one of the world's most vibrant and intense cities! Through sounds and imaginative blends of musical genres. A literal musical voyage worth taking. An exciting debut for Chishti. We anxiously await their next album!
Liked this CD more everytime I played it. The songs build and move very well.
author: Joe JRobbin Harris and Toby Mac have put together a truly great CD here. I find something different in the songs every time I listen to this CD. It was suspect on the internet but at home this is just great. The music is always in transition, definently not boring. You need a good stereo to discover all that is in this CD. At the same time it is good in the car. I really like this CD, have played it a lot so far. Hope they do more. Very refreshing.
