ABOUT "EVENING IN PARIS"
With this marvelous new recording (his fifth CD) Chuck Suchy takes his songcraft and artistry in
an ever broader array of directions and dimensions. At first glance the themes are the same -
reflections and observations on his Great Plains homeland (where life there has been and where
it has gone), recollection of youth and its fancies (as in the title song and its aromas of dimestore
perfumes and mohair), the irrevocable and inevitable passing of the generations ("Grandma's
Bones," "Watching Wyoming") and his trademark meditations ("Diminishing Winds," "Matter of
Faith"). Yet on closer examination this great recording has the feel of a corner being turned... a feeling
of growth and movement toward a higher place. And while the instrumentation and production is
much the same as on his previous fine CDs, there is an ever-increasing richness, complexity and
mellowing to his music both lyrically and melodically as one would find with the finest wines.
Evening in Paris ultimately is a celebration of basic human experience and, though rooted in the
American Great Plains, will strike a resonance with listeners in all locales and walks of life.

ABOUT CHUCK SUCHY
"...one of the shining lights of the Upper Great Plains folk scene." - Gaynor Johnson, Crossroads Magazine
Chuck Suchy (pronounced soo-key) is the real thing - one of the foremost musical voices of the
American Great Plains. A working farmer, born and raised and at home in the blue hills along the
Missouri River south of Mandan, North Dakota, Chuck Suchy has a love for making music that goes
back to his childhood. Throughout his youth and young adult life, he found time to perform in the
area's halls, clubs and lounges, singing and playing guitar and accordion. In 1982 a major event
occurred when an acquaintance gave him a tape of Canadian troubadour Stan Rogers singing his
classic Field Behind The Plow. "It was at that moment" Suchy says "that I realized that the life I was
immersed in was worthy of song." He began writing his own ballads and songs, slipping them into
his performances and it was soon obvious that he was on to something quite unique - sensitive
and honest portrayals of contemporary American farm life, but from an insider's point of view.
In the decade since, Chuck has continued to write, sing and record songs evoking and extolling the
Great Plains region and lifestyle. His themes have expanded over the years to include human relationships,
spirituality, motorcycles, and even sailing. The Plains have seen a lot of change over this
time, including farm crises, loss of population, and a major restructuring of the agricultural economy.
Chuck remains an astute observer of it all and his songs chronicle not only the events, but the emotions
and feelings that accompany such upheaval and change. His music and stories speak to
everyone - urban and rural - because laughter, love, loss and gain are common human properties.

  • A treat!
    author: LINDA GALLALEE

Chuck Suchy has the most comforting voice - I just love it. You can hear the weariness that is part of a farmer's life, offset by his love of the land of of the people in his life. I picture him spending all day working the fields and working out a song in his head, and coming into the house at night and picking it out on his guitar. He is the real deal. He must be respected by his peers, to get such great musicians to work with him. Overall, I like Dakota Breezes a little better, but that is just my personal taste. Chuck Suchy is a real find, and worth searching for.

  • Chuck is as wonderful as his CD
    author: Gracie Manning

I never heard of Chuck Suchy until last month. My fiancee's car broke down on a VERY cold night in the middle of nowhere in North Dakota. After several cars passed him, Chuck stopped and picked him up and drove him to the nearest town and wouldn't even leave him until I could get there to pick him up. Thank you Chuck for your kindness to a complete stranger and for the beautiful music. I think "Hold Me" was written for me. I was also very impressed with the service from CD Baby.

His music is really enjoyable and a pleasure to listen to. Where can his other CD's be found.

  • Awesome CD!
    author: Arlene

As with all of Chuck Suchy's recordings, Evening in Paris reminds me of the North Dakota prairie where I grew up. I hope to one day obtain all of his recordings. Great Music and Great service from CDbaby.

  • Continues to shine
    author: Jim DeNio

All of Chuck Suchy’s albums have a quiet elegance in tone and expression. "Evening In Paris" continues the adventure. The stories are descriptive of the heartland, the sadnesses and the joys. I grew up in a rural area in New York State and can identify with and feel the emotion of his presentation.

  • Very Soothing Music
    author: Steve Friddle

My wife and I saw him live at the Prairie Home Companion Show. We knew we had to get his CD. I listened to both his CDs on this site, but thought this one had a better sound. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

  • buy this cd
    author: steve winter

If you like story telling folk music (and even if you don't know if you do) buy this cd. Then buy the rest of Chuck Suchy's collection and you'll love them all. I give them as gifts - everyone loves them...

  • Fantastic lyrics set to music that is memorable
    author: Paul Hammar

Chuck Suchy's voice has become so very mellow. He turns a pharase so very well and touches the sensitive parts of my memory of life as a child on the prarie.

  • Great Service
    author: Pam Weng

I haven't listened to this CD as it is a gift, but I was really impressed with the service I received from CD Baby. The CD arrived in just a couple days!

  • author: Pete Jonsson

Here's a CD that's going to wear well, like a pair of work overalls or blue jeans. It'll stay in rotation, and it'll grow on you. Chuck Suchy is a writer who has something to say.

  • prairie poetry
    author: Eric Reishus

A poetic masterpiece with excellent instrumentals and vocals that have a soft yet strong prairie edge. Recommended highly.

  • Evening in Paris is music and poetry.
    author: David Manley

Evening in Paris, written and sung by Chuck Suchy, is both music and poetry. The unique songs Chuck has written and performed appeal universally because Chuck is so honest and candid in expressing his own thoughts and feelings. Some of them can bring tears to the eyes. It's impressive how he and his accompanying musicians have developed the delicate background sound which has it's own musical poetry and goes along with the words.

  • Good
    author: Pop Briggs

Excellent instrumentals and Chuck Suchy has a pleasant voice but all the songs basically sound the same.

  • author: Doug Hilderbrand

A beautiful CD. The first two cuts by themselves are worth the price of admission. Watching Wyoming is especially nice. I heard it on KBCS and knew immediately I had to buy the album.
