WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING...
"...a soul-stirring message of working-class struggle and the triumph of compassion in the face of unrelenting pressure from the forces of darkness..."
"...glorious music, assembled on the CD "Circle: The Songs of Circo Zero", produced by Hennessey and recorded by Norman Rutherford at Ear to the Ground, featuring the astonishing, haunting vocals of Gabriel Todd and Loren Olds."
"Todd and Olds...immerse themselves in the tenor of other times, then spirit the flavor of these times directly to us. Their singing is out-of-body and otherworldly, penetrating to the heart."
Bay Area Reporter-by Mark Mardon
CIRCO ZERO is an aclaimed contemporary circus from San Francisco directed by Keith Hennessy.
CIRCLE, The Songs of Circo Zero attempts to investigate, reclaim and reframe the American culture and identity within a global context. We celebrate hybridity, the mongrel nature of mixed blood lines, cultural influences and survival tactics. CIRCLE revisits the roots music of the Southeastern United States, specifically the hybrid co-evolution of the Celtic and West African music and spiritual cultures as influenced by the struggles, successes and spirits of this 'new' continent. It is our intention to work for peace and justice by honoring and re-imagining our artistic ancestors.

Insightful, haunting and a new twist to some old tunes
author: ChrisCirco Zero brings alive the haunting themes of life, oppression, war and work. Simple tunes like the "star spangle banner" and "I've been working on the reailroad" get a new life that suggests we are living in a river of wonderful life but might be refusing to swim. Wake up. Join the struggle. Live. Which side are you on?
