AL KLINK - SAXOPHONE

Al Klink can be heard as one of the tenor soloists on the original recording of Glenn Miller's "In The Mood." Al played with Glenn Miller's Orchestra during its most popular years of 1939 to 1942. Al recorded and toured with Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra, and the World's Greatest Jazz Band. Al also became a very successful studio musician when the swing era ended.

This album came about through a twelve year association I had with Lou Stein. I had met Lou during a jazz workshop he was running in 1977. I eventually went to his studio once a week to play with him, and this lasted for twelve years. During this time he helped me immensely in learning about jazz. This lead to doing three recordings with Lou. One of which was this album. Lou contracted George Duvivier and Al Klink for the record date. This album was recorded in two three hour sessions over two days. I will never forget the experience of playing with these wonderfully talented musicians. At the end of the date George Duvivier commented that we got a feeling that sometimes never happened on the many record dates he had done. Most of the songs were recorded in one or two takes. The unique arrangements on some very standard tunes were a result of Lou Stein's great imagination. After the sessions were over, I thanked these wonderful players for helping me do this record. I'll never forget, their response was "John we hope music brings to your life what it has to ours." A thought I will never forget, and will always be a part of my music. All of these fine players have since passed on and their legacy lives through the music. At the time, this might have been one of the last dates recorded by George Duvivier. Again I thank these great musicians and hope you enjoy listening.
