notes
[All songs were played and sung "live" (i.e., no overdubs) in Turner's bedroom/home studio.]
"Turner's acoustic guitar playing on this collection of classic covers from the Sixties and Seventies (including Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' the Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows,' and the Beatles' 'Blackbird') is first rate."
-MUSIC CONNECTION
"Dale's melodic vocals transform the rock past of these songs [to] an easy listening present--with no electricity at all. A different view for classic rock, a view that travels through the folk rock streets of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan."
-SKYLIGHT
"Dale is one of those people who really shouldn't be left to his own devices for too long... He's gone and attempted the impossible by arranging 'Bohemian Rhapsody' for acoustic guitar and voice. Try to imagine Brian May's guitar solo and the multi-layering of the operatic style vocals with -- yep -- just Dale and his guitar... Dale's unique interpretation of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is so bad, it's good. It deflates all the pomposity of the original... An instant classic... I can't wait for Dale's next CD." (Our Rating: 10 Stars)
-WHISPERIN' & HOLLERIN'
"Dale Turner's INTERPRETATIONS was, at first, a little hard to get into. In fact, the first track alone left me wondering if this was a comedy CD. (By the way, it's not.) Once I got past the initial shock of an acoustic version of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' the rest of it was pretty good: 'Blackbird,' 'Hallelujah,' a slightly off-putting rendition of 'Coconut'... Even though I prefer the original versions of all these songs, I did find this album to be cool in its own right. I mean, it *is* called INTERPRETATIONS; I think that gives you creative license to do what you want."
-antiMUSIC
"Dale Turner deserves to be brought to a much wider audience. His excellent and imaginative guitar arrangements are immaculately picked and well sung."
-ACOUSTIC GUITAR WORKSHOP
"Truly amazing renditions of tunes from the 60's and 70's for acoustic guitar and voice--both hilarious at times, and just smooth and cool at other times."
-GUITARHOO.com
"Dale Turner is one of a kind. He's got his own wall to climb and parapet to peer from--outstanding in his own field. I'm a musician too and appreciate people who go their own way as does Dale."

~***~
Arranged and performed by acoustic guitarist/vocalist Dale Turner, INTERPRETATIONS is far from a routine ride through the classic tracks of yesteryear.
Over the course of this disc's 40 minutes, Turner takes 10 timeless tunes and steers them into largely uncharted territory--most notably in his treatment of epics like "Bohemian Rhapsody" (his one-man adaptation of this song's famed "Galileo" section is just plain scary--reminiscent of a "guitar-playing Bobby McFerrin") and funky folk freak outs like "Coconut" (an ultra-intense exploration of Nilsson's original one-chord vamp).
Applying new twists to acoustic classics like "Blackbird" (replete with Turner's bewildering "bird" sounds) and "Sweet Baby James" (played at a slower tempo, with a "swing" feel), Turner also takes on piano-based gems like "God Only Knows" (Beach Boys) and "She's Always a Woman" (Billy Joel). It is during these performances, as well as haunting renditions of "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen) and "Leader of the Band" (Dan Fogelberg), where Turner truly reveals the depths of his vocal abilities.
Meanwhile, guitar players--particularly Hendrix fans--will rejoice over the all-acoustic treatment of "Castles Made of Sand" (featuring another Turner trademark: a little "mouth guitar" solo) that appears in this set's closing moments.
All songs were played and sung "live" (i.e., no overdubs) in Turner's bedroom/home studio.
Originally recorded in December 2000 (as a Christmas gift for Turner's mother), this CD has since been "remixed"--in stunning sound quality--and is now available as the first official release on the INTIMATE AUDIO label (released January 2004).
Dedicated to Jeff Buckley, INTERPRETATIONS also features extensive liner notes paying homage to the late singer-songwriter/interpretive artist, as well as track-by-track information detailing Turner's unique arrangements.
Mandatory listening for fans of multi-faceted fretwork and edgy, eclectic vocals.

Rock!!!
author: Thomas FestaThe songs are just great!! If you don t listen to them you cant even know how in a cool way can be arranged songs, acoustically speaking. A very cool way to listen and see the songs, especially the classic rock ones, from another point of view, the acoustic one. If you are looking for something different, original interesting, and played from an awesome guitarist and vocalist ( the stuff he does with voice his just are just too cool) Inerpretations is an album to have!! Rock it!!
Awesome!!!!!
author: Tomer ShteinThis album is amazing! such a great musicianship, humor and feelings.Awesome guitar playing and great vocals! The arrangements are great, for example you can listen to Turner's version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" it's just fascinating, all the parts by one person. Turner also recorded "Hallelujah" which is always a classic and Turner's version just beautiful and pure like the whole album. Highly recommended!
Incredible Interpretations!
author: Jason Jennings (J2)Clearly Turner is a master of the instrument and not too shabby of a vocalist as well. I wholeheartedly recommend this album as a way to re-visit some of any music lover's favorites. She's always a woman is just as heartfelt as the original and the whistle solo on Bohemian Rhapsody will have you gasping. Great!
Amazing!
author: greg harrison "shredzilla"Wow. The arrangements are great, very clever adaptations and brilliant guitar work. personal faves are blackbird and bohemian rhapsody for the orchestration on the ax and incredible vocal delivery. if your lookin for some sick folk jamz with top notch guitar and vocals, look no further, a great buy!
This is the title of my review...right here.
author: Michael Georgia "Mike G"I find it amazing how someone can take a song like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and pull it off solo. "She's Always A Woman" is wonderful, it speaks with gobbs (a whole lot) of emotion. And the individuality between guitar and voice on "Castles Made Of Sand" is brilliant. Great album. Dale Turner definitly has found a good mix between emotion, musical depth and humor.
A Great addition to your collection
author: David A. IorioA must have for anyone looking for an original take on solo acoustic guitar. The 1st track "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a perfect way to start off this 10 track gem. Dale has not only give an excellent take on classic songs he has also created arrangments that are unique and soulful. big props and a full 5 stars.
A great talent and a funny guy!
author: Daniel SaundersDale Turner's "Interpretations" is wonderful! His arrangements for these classic songs are very tastefully done. He makes them his own by adding in his unique sense of humor. How does he do all that stuff with his voice?! Once you realize that Dale recorded this CD for his mother, it makes it even more special. "Interpretations" is lots of fun to listen to!

Freakin Amazing!!
author: Dan DurakovichWhen you thought the bar could not be raised any further by a single man and his guitar, Dale's genius arrangement of Queen's masterpiece "Bohemian Rhapsody" quickly disprooves you. Along with many other classic songs that even full bands wouldn't try to tackle. Dale's multi-octave voice is right on and sometimes flat out hilarious. "Interpretations" will keep any listener fascinated til the end as these are no ordinary renditions of cover songs. You need to hear it to believe it!!! Rating this CD 5 stars is an understatement.

Great album!
author: Sean KohlmeierLooking for a great acoustic album? This is the one to get. Dale Turner's arrangements are amazing. The way he faithfully presents the orginals while weaving in his own quirky interpretations is so sophistocated and at the same time hilarious, you can't help but smile. These gems keep your full attention for the entire ride. Brilliant guitar work and at times heartfelt, at times nutty vocals make this a must-have.
For the love of acoustic guitar
author: joey baughThis is really a great album. After listening to it i started pulling out the albums with the original songs and was amazed how songs originally by full piece bands could sound so good with one man his voice and his acoustic guitar. Theres alot of fun in listening to this album and alot of contemplation in trying to figure out how the voice on this album can create so many different sounds (check the cd out and you'll know what im talking about). This album is more than worthy of the 5 stars.
RECOMMEND INTERPRETATIONS
author: Eric Kluksdahl5+ stars for this cd. It is truly amazing what Dale has done with these classic songs. One can really hear the hard work that was put into this masterpiece by the solo acoustic guitar arrangements, not to mention Dale's incredible sense of individuality in these arrangements. One can see the talent that Dale posesses and I really look up to him for making such a top notch version of many of our favorite songs. A must for any guitar fan, this cd will stay in my collection for many years to come!!!
