notes
Damon Johnson's music career is a story of persistence, diversity, and good fortune. Heralded in his early 20's as one of the more fierce guitarists in the southern U.S., Johnson formed the four-piece rock band, Chyld, in his home state of Alabama in 1990. After working with different lead singers and acquiring a development deal with Virgin Records in November of that year, it was when a record company rep heard Johnson sing a few cover songs that he was convinced that Damon should become the lead vocalist and frontman. A name change to Brother Cane would find the band in the Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles in the summer of '92. A year later Virgin released the self titled debut, Brother Cane, which would yield three Top 10 rock tracks (including the #1 single, "Got No Shame") and high profile tours with Aerosmith, Robert Plant, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Damon and the band toured for 14 months and the album sold an impressive 250,000 copies. In 1995 Brother Cane delivered their sophomore effort, Seeds, and saw their song "And Fools Shine On" mount an 8-week stay at #1 at Rock Radio in the U.S. and Canada. "Fools" also became the theme song for the horror film, Halloween 6, and secured the band tour dates in Europe and as opening act for rock legends Van Halen. Damon became fast friends with singer Sammy Hagar, and made songwriting and guitar-playing contributions to Sammy's first post-Van Halen solo album, Marching To Mars. 1998 brought the release of Brother Cane's third album, Wishpool, which Johnson says, "...was certainly my most personal statement as a lyricist and the body of work that I am most proud of." Yet again, the band had another #1 rock track, "I Lie in the Bed I Make", and toured North America from March until November of '98. But after 6 years of hard touring and an unsatisfactory yield for the time and energy invested, Brother Cane amicably disbanded.
At the start of the new millineum, Johnson recorded and released an all-acoustic solo album, Dust. He became, briefly, a member of the Damn Yankees with Ted Nugent, Jack Blades, Tommy Shaw, and Michael Cartelone (a full album was recorded but ultimately shelved). In March of 2001, Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks recorded the Damon Johnson composition, "Everyday" (co-written with John Shanks) as the first single for her solo album, Trouble In Shangrila. Later that same year, Damon became lead guitarist for the great British rock vocalist, John Waite.
Early 2002 brought the debut album from Slave To The System, a side-project of Damon's with producer Kelly Gray and Queensryche drummer Scott Rockenfield. In August of that year, Johnson's distinctive guitar work was featured on country/pop superstar Faith Hill's smash hit single, "Cry", a track produced by Damon's Brother Cane co-writer, Marti Frederiksen. That same year also brought collaborations with Ted Nugent on his album, Craveman, and three songs with hard rockers Skid Row on their album, Thick Skin.
In 2003, Damon opened his own recording studio, Double Dragon, located at his home just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. Using the new studio, he recorded and produced Red Halo, performing temporarily as lead singer and bassist. The results would be the debut album, Dead Man's Vitamin. (Currently, Johnson fills strictly the producer role with the band as they prepare to release their second album). Double Dragon Studios and Damon's production have already been the choice of several other up and coming young artists: Medusa Stone, Universal Joint, Jivetrain, The Fairwell, and country music artist, Chris Scott.
Rock legend Alice Cooper came calling in August of 2004, and Damon became guitarist for his band. Cooper's new album, Dirty Diamonds, features Johnson's playing and songwriting skills and a world tour is currently underway. As of this writing, Damon plans to balance his duties as member of the AC Band with recording and performing with The Welfare ("the world's greatest bar band"), releasing a new Slave To The System album (via their new deal with Spitfire Records), and working again with his mates in Brother Cane (and big recent news: Johnson co-wrote a song on the new Santana album coming out in November of 2005. The song is called "Just Feel Better" and will be sung on the album by Steven Tyler).

Dust
author: Rob GerkeI've been following Damon Johnson's career since I saw Brother Cane open for Aerosmith in 1994. Their first, self-titled album is still in my regular rotation. The follow-up albums, "Seeds" and "Wishpool" were just as fantastic and solid as the first. I've followed Damon through his stints with Alice Cooper, Slave to the System and Whiskey Falls. For years, I've been turning people on to his music and will continue to do so. "Dust" is the dream album for his fans, and anyone who loves acoustic rock. Johnson gets better and better as a musician with every release, and the magic of his songs is captured on "Dust."
Wonderful...

Dust is an Amazing CD
author: Ben O.Damon Johnson did an awesome job with the live acoustic solo perforance from Dust. It is an amazing compilation of an acoustic set that shows the greatness of the performer. It has it all, some mellow acoustic, some rockin' acoustic, and even a few covers of legends (merle haggard and thin lizzy) Highly Recommend this to anyone who likes Damon, rock, or acoustic performances!!!

I bought this on a whim because of Damon's other band. What I got was an EXCELLENT live cd, full of good tunes, not a toss away track in the bunch. The Brother Cane songs are better then the studio versions (is that possiable?) Bottom line, if you like BC in any way, you'll like this cd.
If you like Brother Cane..........
author: John LowtherIf you liked Brother Cane you must have this CD. I really liked the acoustic versions of the Brother Cane songs and the songs I didn't know I liked even better. To Turn Back Now has become my new favorite song. A definite buy for any Damon Johnson fan. Check out Red Halo too!

accoustic versions sound crisp and full of heart and soul .
author: PARKERDust , the latest C.D. released from Damon Johnson gave me a new perspective on his musical talents . I continue to enjoy his earlier releases and then to find an accoustical version of his works just revived my passion for the music. This C.D. has some cool new tunes , plus live versions that were my motivation in the fisrt place . I went on th einternet to find old, live jams of Brother Cane . What I found instead was anew compilation of freash music and creativity . I'm still looking for live recordings from earlier shows . Damon it's wonderful to know you still are rockin' . Just wish I lived closer to Bama. Parker Lewis.....
Excellent acoustic performance by Damon!!!
author: DJNothing tests a musician's talent more than stripping it down to the basics; just a man, his guitar and his voice. Apparently this is where Damon excels and more than proves his musicianship. As a long standing fan of Brother Cane and Damon's side projects I would highly recommend this release. Awesome acoustic recording. Thank you for all the great music Damon.
Must have, phenominal piece of work
author: Kathy GrahamThe Dust CD is an excellent Acoustic recording. Damon Johnson at his finest, with a few exceptions of his Wishpool works. This is a must have. A CD you just can't get enough of. So looking forward to a second acoustic CD from him.....HINT!
Outstanding acoustic recording from Brother Cane's Damon Johnson!
author: Don WishonI have been a fan of Brother Cane and Damon's music for several years now and fortunately came across this CD (thanks to e-bay) last year. I purchased my copy from cdbaby.com and upon arrival, played it for three consecutive days...absolutely incredible release from an outstanding singer/songwriter/musician! Damon has since performed an acoustic show here in Dallas (October, 2002) and we plan to continue putting more shows together in the future.
Wonderful.....the best acoustic CD i've ever heard
author: Mindcrime106The songs are great....well written....performed perfectly
absolutely astounding. nothing short of spectacular;-)
author: patti the empressaccoustic works leave the listener with raw material, feeling and 'sensing' the music as it's written in it's purist form. this cd is exceptionally produced and i'd buy a thousand of them;-)

Excellent CD !
author: Chris TrentA very good album. Enjoying it very much and will continue to do so. Thanks.
Damon is more talented than almost everyone today..and real.
author: Robyn HarshfieldThis cd is good--it's stripped down and real. The acoustics are good and so are the songs. The guitar is melodic and perfect as ususal. The songs from Wishpool are my favorite--That was the best rock album of the Late 90s. The main thing is that this cd makes you feel and reflect. Take the time to really hear some music and you'll be glad you did.
complete & awesome piece of work!!
author: chas mckewena awesome piece of music. dust is hard & rockin`. it`s also slow & meaningful. it gets you going & calms you down...can`t wait till damon`s next piece of work...i might have to buy another cd..i`m wearing the one i bought out..
dust, the acoustic album for serinating
author: Ronnie Dryden (flight19)the album dust is such a masterpiece. not just the album, but the feeling in the music. and ive even learned to play and sing some of the songs, like to turn back now, and believe in me. and i have actually saved my relationship with my girlfriend more than one time after singing her these songs. these songs are what music should be, simple but difficult, and soft but cool. ive been writing music and preforming for along time now, and this is one of those album where, if i could pick any music that i wish i had wrote, it would be this..thanx
An ultimate masterpiece
author: DianeFull of songs that will chill you and soothe you to the bone, 'Dust' highlights just how talented of a musician Damon Johnson really is. The real beauty in this acoustic CD is how it adds a new element to the previously recorded Brother Cane songs. 'Dust' is a must have for any guitar enthusiast or Brother Cane/Damon fan. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent
author: PhilThere is not much to say about this but a work of art, a must for both brother can fans and acoustic fans.
Rocks!
author: BigjDamon Johnson Rocks! Love the album!
Vigin Records sucks ass, for letting Damon Johnson go! They will be sorry!
author: Boston Boy Dig Damon Johnson CdThe whole CD is great, it brings you closer and help the non musicians understand song structure. Damon has always impressed me with his excellent song writing abilities. I did think that on some tracks the vocals could have been a touch louder, but overall this is a must buy CD. See you when you come to Boston at the House of Blues!
The "Got No Shame" track is great
author: Paul "soundman"bensonI work in a club in Atlanta doing PA(soundman)for bands When Loaded Dice loaded-dice.com came to perform they brought me a cd to play to open their show with. I was told to play track 8 as the cd played I knew I heard the song before but not in this format (ACOUSTIC) the song was "Got No Shame" It rocked the club and set everyone up for the band. After the first set I played the other tracks on the Damon Johnson's Dust cd which kept the club rockin' When the gig was over I asked the band how could I get a copy of the Dust cd and was told to shop CDBABY. I got the cd and use it to open ALOT of bands with now. Get the Dust cd it is great. You'll love it.
Dust: It's a cd release that needs to be in everyone cd collection !!!!
author: RolandI can account for telling you this cd RULES... not just a cd that will be played once and traded or discarded afterwards. Dust has a track on it you can relate to no matter how your feeling... you can only rate this cd at the best being 5 stars but actaully the Dust cd deserves at least 10 stars... Dust... it's a cd that needs to be in everyone cd collection !!!
Outstanding
author: Chris SoltisI picked this CD up at an acoustic show Damon played with Mike Farris of the Wheelies. Dust is an amazing disc. Great new songs, outstanding reworkings of Brother Cane tunes and some excellent covers. I haven't stopped listening to it since. GET THIS CD NOW!!!
the man is an excellent song writer
author: Ed Boycethe music is very deep and has alot of meaning. when you listen to the words you can feel the emotions through every note. i love the way the music keeps you thinking - about life in general - keeps me going. once again, thumbs up for damon johnson, or how about a HELL YEAH! you rock BRO!
Another Great C.D. from this amazing artist
author: Pat And Cecelia MccarthyDamon has another Great cd to add to his collection. The acoustic material is GREAT, and gives a new angle to some classic Brother Cane favorites. If your thinking about picking this cd up, I highly recommend this GREAT work of art!
The best music available!
author: Shawn T.Following the awe inspiring career of Brother Cane and post Brother Cane, I was quick to grab this release by the frontman, Damon Johnson. Words could not prepare me for the full arsenal of sound this man was to unleash on this accoustic album! For a few lucky cities in the southeast, radio stations will occasionally play a song or two from this album, but for the rest of the world, this CD is a MUST for collections! Hear the great voice from a great musician, then spread the word of this awesome talent.
Like finding a pearl in an oyster!
author: Teresa MeninnoWaiting/wondering about new Brother Cane tunes led me to find this pearl. No national media is given to this piece of art, but it's a gem. Johnson's vocals and acoustic guitarwork are spotlighted for the first time. Portions are recorded live from venues and masterfully produced. The song selections are a magical mix, from smooth to pure rock: Brother Cane chartbusters and standards, some great covers, and some brand new. The new material proves the credibility of his songwriting is stronger than ever. You can spend a day digging thru racks of CDs in your favorite store, but right here's where you'll find that oyster with its pearl!
A definite "must have" for all former fans of Brother Cane and a true "serious c
author: Ink19 Lee Ann LeachDamon Johnson. Name sound familiar? It should. Johnson was the long-time head man, lead guitarist, and lead vocalist for Brother Cane, the Alabama rock band that was dropped from Virgin Records after releasing their best recording ever in 1998 with Wishpool. Wishpool didn't gain overwhelming success, but honestly, it was the best rock album released in 1998, and I personally lay the blame of its lack of popularity squarely on the shoulders of Virgin Records. The CD was a solid, hard hitting piece of rock and roll magic, and there was no reason in God's great, green earth it shouldn't have been in the top ten CDs of the year in 1998. But alas, what do suits know, eh? So in the year 2000, we find Johnson hooking up on guitar with Damn Yankees and releasing his own solo acoustic CD on Huntsville, Alabama's Moon Town Records. Some of the tracks on the solo, Dust, are tried and true Brother Cane hits played by Johnson alone, with no backing from BC bassist Roman Glick, drummer Scott Collier, or second guitarist David Anderson. Johnson still stands out simply with the acoustic and his own soulful, emotion-filled vocals. There are studio acoustic tracks, such as the opening tune, a new song for Johnson, entitled "To Turn Back Now," followed by Johnson's ballad written for his mother, "Voice Of Eujena," but the major portion of these acoustic songs were recorded live at such local Alabama rock and roll haunts as Zydeco in Birmingham and Crossroads Cafe in Huntsville. Paying tribute to his long time rock and roll idols, Thin Lizzy, Johnson performs a heartfelt rendition of his personal favorite tune, "Borderline," and earlier on the CD, presents an old Jimmy Rodgers tune in "Workin' Man Blues," adding that it was one of his dad's favorite songs when he was a child. Also included on Dust are my two favorites written by Johnson, "Woman" and "The Truth." The real clincher on this live acoustic CD though, is a new one, "Does She Think of Me." Out of all the bands and songs I have heard, it's been almost two years since a new song has immediately brought tears to my eyes, but this little sweetheart of a tune managed to do it. It was good to hear original bassist Glen Maxey joining Johnson on the final cut on this CD, "Make Your Play." A definite "must have" for all former fans of Brother Cane and a true "serious consideration" for fans wanting some sweet acoustic music from one of the most skilled guitarists coming out of the South. Can I get a "Hell, yeah?!"
