David Boyles
"Bedroom Demos"

"I like to think of it as 'organic hip-Pop, baked in southern-fried soul'."
~ David Boyles, when asked to describe his musical style

In a current pop climate that is chock full of sampled music & copycat artists, North Carolina native David Boyles breathes life into the music universe with his organic funk, spinning stories that draw the listener in with a spiritual, sexual, and original flare.

Boyles is a multi-faceted artist - he began his musical career singing in church choir. He played drums in high school, and then went on to study music at Western Carolina University, majoring in jazz bass performance with a minor in jazz guitar.

"Bedroom Demos", which was written, performed, and recorded entirely by David in his bedroom on his 2-track 'm-box', takes it's listeners on a never-ending journey through thought-provoking themes and genre-breaking sounds.

Recent placements of David's music include: "Good Thing" on NBC's Scrubs.
In March "Saturday", "Right Back", and "Good Thing" were each featured on Garageband.com's Track of the Week.

Like some of the contemporaries before him that he lists as influences (Prince, D'Angelo, Jamiroquai, Thicke), David Boyles has a style that cannot be instantly categorized. A sonic hybrid of R&B, funk, reggae, acoustic, and soul all mesh together to create an atmosphere so vital that people keep coming back for more, as evidenced by his frequent standing room only shows across the country.

My favourite artist in forever is Jamiroquai, and this boy is sounding fairly similar! He's awesome, sounds a bit like Kyle Riabko and has a fair bit of talent. He could pass of as Jason Mraz on some tracks, which is amazing!

  • Maroon 5 meets prince meets Jack Johnson..who can do this?

I bought this CD at a show last week. I saw him solo and was floored when I heard the CD with full instruments. I can't find his new release on Columbia from Japan. He talked about it in between songs. My friends and I saw him by accident, now I am searching the web to find out everything I can about him. He needs to be played on radio here!

  • Excellent - just got himself signed to a record deal with Columbia

Short and sweet. Hip-hop white boy transplanted from the east coast to the west and doing well. Fantastic, especially considering the recording was done in his bedroom, hence "Bedroom Demos." David just got himself a bona fide recording contract with Columbia based upon his work here. He also shares many of his newest tracks, including some live, on his website. I'm a middle-aged whiteboy who wouldn't normally listen to this style of music, but DB has me hooked. Worth every penny and then some!

  • oh so good

I had to get 3 more copies for friends ....

  • One of the few genius songwriters of our time puts out
    author: Phil Richards

This CD is addicting! The songs are pure genius, written and performed by one of the few genius songwriters of our day. Boyles has complete command of his voice and his instruments (he plays them all!) as he blends pop, funk, rap, jazz and rock. The lyrics, unlike most popular music these days, actually have something to say - the songs are rife with a contemporary, poetic voice. This is a must-have CD.

I wish you guys had live show listings on this site - I would LOVE to hear this guy in person, I'll bet he's amazing. Sounds like Prince ! and he's a white guy? Very funky! Some songs remind me of Jamiroqui.

A few tunes deserve more like 10 out of 5 stars. His voice is full of surprises with a uniquely haunting and versatle delivery. Fun, playful tracks, but some depict a distinctly wistful sadness as well. I only heard the offerings from the site, but intend to buy the CD. Great stuff!

  • sounds like the bastard child of Prince and G-Love

This is one of the most exciting cds I've ever purchased! I bought one at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and I liked it so much I tell all my friends to buy the cd too. I've almost worn it out in my car - it makes my longass drive to and from work on the freeway bearable. Favorite songs: Saturday, Good Thing, and It's On. Can't wait to hear this on the radio someday!

  • Excellent !!
