Jazz Singer Daniel A. Young Makes “A Place to Dream”
Central Indiana entertainer Daniel A. Young is a singer and musical performer specializing in “American Songbook” standards, jazz tunes and romantic ballads.
Dreamwalker Media announces the release of “A Place to Dream” / Daniel A. Young Sings Jazz Standards. The recording features pianist/arranger Ken Fary, and several of Indy’s finest jazz musicians, including Jack Helsley on bass, Sam Withrow on drums, tenor sax solos by Michael Stricklin (three tracks), and trumpet and flugel horn by Jeff Conrad (three tracks).
Over three decades, Daniel (D.A.) Young was a part-time studio session singer and small-club performer around the Indianapolis area, appearing often as a solo act, or with his own group, D.A. & the Convictions. In the 1990’s, he produced an original art-rock/pop demo compilation called, “My Favorite Stranger,” released independently in October 1998. A second song collection, “Soul to the Wheel” was completed in June 2005 (available at CD-Baby.com).
After a hiatus to finish his college degree, Daniel returned to music, performing standards and ballads at the 2002 Indy 500 Champagne Ball, The Main Street Stage at the Indiana State Fair, three networking dates for the Perfect Wedding Guide, and three grand opening parties for Eddie Merlot's restaurant, as well as other private events.
Over the last three years, Daniel has expanded and refined his repertoire of standards, and become a polished vocal performer. He has methodically redefined himself as a jazz singer, with a listenable and appealing voice perfectly suited to traditional pop and jazz standards. Daniel sings classic tunes by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, Jerome Kern, Rogers & Hart, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, and others.
In 2005 and 2006, he has performed solo at Brix, A Zionsville Bistro; Eddie Merlot's, D'vine Wine Bar, and Deano's Vino in Fountain Square, all in Indianapolis. Daniel sang with the Ken Fary Trio at the Jazz Kitchen, Indy's premier jazz club, for a CD release concert on Feb. 24, 2007. The group also appeared with sax man Michael Stricklin at the Chatterbox in downtown Indianapolis, on Mar. 9, 2007. Daniel appears solo frequently on Saturdays at Deano's Vino, and returns to the Chatterbox with the Ken Fary Trio on June 8.
The CD, titled “A Place to Dream” was released to Indianapolis-area record stores and on-line vendors in January 2007.

author: Monie HeathLovely version of "The Very Thought of You. The joy in the jazz is apparent. Once heard the late Cy Coleman sing some of his original music and the CD reminded me of that. Laid back, but with a high degree of musicianship and originality. Indy IS lucky ...
Nice renditions!
author: Jody Kuchar/ScribeSpirit.orgThe songs presented on this CD are done well, with nice musical accompaniment. Each standard is delivered with smooth styling. Indy is lucky to have such a performer locally. Buy the CD, sit in the sun on the beach, or by the fire with your honey and have a listen....
You are a classy, smooth, articulate performer!!!!
author: Prof. Jey MontrealYour vocals reminds me of the great Mel Torme. The musicians on each song complement your vocals and you are a pro with the sounds many don't hear today! Keep up the music that is smooth, classy and pleasing to the ears. Prof. Jey Montreal
