notes

"Every now and then a musician manages to climb over my high wall of standards long enough to make me want to hear more only after twisting my head sideways like a hound dog a couple of times before I realize what's hit me. Denise Dill got me up off my feet at the 30th National Women's Music Festival and my feet were tired!” (~Kara Barnard)

Multi-instrumentalist Denise Dill is fueled by music and poetry. At fifteen, she began songwriting to impress a crush, but it soon became much more than a gimmick. Fresh out of high school, Denise attended Berklee College of Music where she studied piano and songwriting, but her heart forever marked by this experience, drew her back to the organic landscape of rural southern Indiana .

After a period of performing she moved to Bloomington , IN to pursue other creative ventures. In August 2004 she released her third solo album which generated her first large scale tour. This self-titled CD encompasses the deep connections shared with her community, relationships, and the ecosystem. The album resonates natural and mathematical patterns in nature, love, and loss.

This past year she has toured with Lisa Sanders (two-time San Diego Acoustic Artist of the year) and Irina Rivkin (Outmusic Song of the Year 2003). She has shared the stage with recognized U.S. artists Pamela Means , Hamell on Trial, Girlyman, Edie Carey, Anne Heaton, Andrea Bunch and Aerin Tedesco. Denise took her tour international when she performed this fall at Ladyfest Ottawa. She has also performed at National Women's Music Festival and The Big Tado. The self-proclaimed “earthy-folksinger with a queer twist” continues to reinvent her music. Profoundly personal, political, and poetic Denise’s songs draw the listener in deep and hold on tight.

"Denise Dill is the most original, brilliant, singer/songwriter I've come across in a long time. You have to check this woman out!" (~Lisa Sanders, singer/songwriter and two-time San Diego Music Awards winner)

  • Resistance is futile!
    author: Jaime McLeod

In addition to having possibly the sweetest, most alluring voice of any contemporary artist I can think of, Denise Dill is a disarming songwriter whose uncompromising vulnerability could melt even the most hardened heart. On this impressive early effort, Dill weaves her lyrical magic around themes of love, loss, identity, despair, desire and, ultimately, fierce independence, drawing the listener deep into the peaks and valleys of a life lived with awe-inspiring honesty.

  • fullfilling
    author: k h

i bought this album sometime around in mid november. Except a couple of times that i haven't been home, i've listened to it every day. Its like nothing else i've ever heard, and better. Her voice is so amazing, and the lyrics obviously well thought out. I listen to it every single night, while sleeping. Now, its like a security, like a blanket, or a pillow. The best $5 i've ever spent. By Far.

  • It makes me proud to know her!
    author: Summer Roedel

This CD has shown how much Denise has grown not only as an amazing songwriter, but also as an accomplished musician. Decompose will remain my favorite song for personal reasons, but the depth and intensity in which each song permeates a person's soul is enough to bring weakness to even the strongest of knees. I am both humbled and elated by the existence of this music.

  • Divine Messenger

  • This is an amazing cd.
    author: Alix Clarke

I would highly suggest this cd to anyone. I heard Denise for the first time about a year ago, and honestly I had just about given up on local musicians before I met her. Simply put, as a musician she is exceptional, and like her live performances, this cd is amazing.

  • Denise is simply breathtaking... live or on CD!
    author: Brick Briscoe

I've had the pleasure of watching some of this cd come together, as well as, touring with Denise. The response she receives from the audience and other musicians on the bill is something to see. Simply put, the light pours out of her. She is truly blessed with the ability to translate herself into something wonderful, mysterious and intangible. This CD is not exception... get it now!

  • The lyrics on this cd are absolutely amazing...
    author: Sarah Mossberger

I listened to this cd for the first time, and had to listen to it again .. and again ... the lyrics seemed to describe everything I didnt even know I was feeling.

  • I just love that voice!! Great stuff...keep it coming!!
    author: Becky Brown

I love the writing style and the beauty of the songs! I particularly love the song Chameleon, but am partial to Unsaid as well. I know there are many songs on this CD, but it would be great if there were more! Amazing music!!
