At 6’5”, with a thick shock of crimson hair, there's a larger-than-life image at odds with a youthful affect (he's 27) & ethereal voice.     His poetry is the most impressive part in this recording. The wisdom of the ages in his lyrics. Great guitar work as well, and a nice round accompaniment overall. We learned about Brett Dennen at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival last month. Our friends went to his show, and they were gobsmacked. They all ran off to the CD tent to buy his CD but they were all sold out. I bought copies for all of us, and we're all very happy about it.

    I listen to bye & bye on repeat. I love every song on this album but this is the one that really got my attetion. Its simple and so sweet. Brett Dennen has a very beautiful and soothing voice. Can't wait to hear more!

    Like Nathan and probably many others, I bought Brett Dennen's first album after purchasing "So Much More." I first heard his songs on WDVX stream radio (I recommend this station for giving new singer-songwriters lot's of air time), and was attracted to the melancholy of melody and lyrics. I like to follow the artist's journey, and I hope to keep track of Dennen's journey for many years to come.

    I bought this album after I listened to "So Much More" because I wanted to hear his earlier stuff. I love both albums and I highly recommend getting his cds. Brett has a style and sound all his own. I love how deep, chill, and upbeat his songs are. His writing is so good it is able to limn all of his emotions and feelings.

    After my cd arrived I rushed to my office to pop in the cd player and it was love on first note .. Brett Dennon is a songwriter on a par with Paul Simon/john lennon/bob dylan and Paolo Nutini...     Brett Dennan's CD makes me want to paint again. His melodies are memorable, positive and musically mature; his playing is impeccable; he has all the chops and pulls out all the stops with his Chapmanesque voice. Who doesn't love Tracy Chapman's voice? Ditto for Brett Dennan. It's been said that once you hear it you'll never forget it--a rare birdsong not often experienced. I heard all the songs on the CD when Brett was playing the Calgary Folk Festival last week and have been playing the CD for everyone I see in the Maritimes because it restores my faith in songwriting, in artistry and in humanity. The sentiments are wise, honest and pure. His intellect paints the picture that touches the heart and opens it to fly again. His songs are musical poems like Dylan's, Cohen's, Simon's, Mitchell's. He uses all the poetic devices--metaphor, internal rhyme, alliteration, simile--with not a cliche to be found. Like Dylan, Dennan doesn't include his lyrics in the CD so I haven't caught every line but, so far, everything is, as has been said, understated, or just stated in the most original way. I truly believe and I think Simon would agree that the torch of Simon's muse has been passed to the hand of Brett Dennan where he's warmly holding it--alive, well...and expanded.

    I was at StarBucks and heard Brett's Music playing. I asked the lady who it was and she said Brett Dennen. I said, who is that? She said I don't know, it's part of a compilation CD.     On his debut CD, Brett has a good clean, crisp sound that is very honest sounding. His talent is DEFINITELY beyond that of what you'd expect for his age--his songwriting and musicianship are that of an older musician. This guy has a great career ahead of him, that's for sure!

    i first heard brett on npr in cincinnati. the moment you listen to his guitar carrying those lyrics, and his subdued vocals alongside, i couldn't ignore how timeless his music felt. i'm a huge 2pac fan. i love his raps, nobody else seems to flow from the soul like him, whether it's vulgar and raw in frustration or gentle and compassionate over a balladesque beat. whatever 2pac felt, his music was true to his emotion, and forced anyone who listened without undue subjectivity to feel a powerful empathy. brett dennen is so similar in this respect, but voices from the opposite tone on the emotional gamut - love. his music resounds with feeling, but not sappy or overstated, very honest. he is a timeless old soul. very nice work, i'm glad to support musicians with his pure talent. ashley simpsons of the world should hear this music and feel very ashamed of their voicemaster 5000 vocal laundering.

    We were wine tasting in Napa this weekend and we brought Brett's CD. We brought it in one of the wine tasting rooms to see if they would play it and they did. How perfect - sipping wine listening to Dessert Sunrise! The people working there loved it and burned it, they were asking "who is this?" They loved it.     Totally entertaining. Better than I expected. I leave it on repeat while I am at work at a retail store every day and I have had customers bop their heads to it and sway along. It is just so happy. The lyrics make me wish that I was one of the people that the songs are about because they are filled with so many sweet things. Best thing about the cd though is Dennen's amazing guitar talent-wow. Do I recommend it? Heck yes I do!

    I first met Brett at Camp Jack Hazard, a YMCA camp in Claifornia's Sierra. He was a counselor for several years there, and I had his younger brother as one when I was younger. Anyway, I remember both of them would always play their guitars around campfire, with other staff. Getting on topic, I also heard this cd there too, last summer, after Brett had left. I immediately fell in love with the honest lyrics, and the excellant guitar. I love it all, no favorites for me. Definately check this out.

    Brett Dennen is fabulous! I discovered Brett at the Live Oak Music Festival in Santa Barbara. He played in the morning while we sipped our coffee.     Heard the song "dessert sunrise" on world cafe while driving, pulled over and trashed my car looking for a pen or a pencil, anything that i could write with. Finally gave up and after waiting through 3 more songs decided that i would use some oil from my forehead and wrote across the windshield "BRAD BANNON" when i finally heard the name. Later i fogged the windshield and the odyssey began. but at least i found it.

    So when I first heard him singing I was trying to figure out who it was. The voice is so unique and charming and, dare I say it, "adorable", that I had to know who it was....its on of those kind of voices. Sort of like Steve Forbert meets Blossom Dearie. Utterly unique and compelling. And once you hear the voice you will recognize it forever. A lovely album by a very endearing and and talented guy.     From the first pop of the opening note on Blessed, you think to yourself that something special to happen. The riff plays itself through, opening the door for an intricate rhythm section that hangs back as the perfect canvas to a voice coated in hypnotic timbre. Brett Dennin. Who is this artist? I saw him play at a Farmers Market on a darkly lite street. I was lulled over from two blocks away amid the surrounding cacophony of the open street. I followed my ears to Garden Street where Brett stood next to a drummer. That was the entire band. I watched in awe as his finger wove patterns never heard before on the guitar and listened in awe to a voice that sounded like silk dipped in honey. I bought his CD there on the street. I never did that before. I tore open the saran before I got to my car and shoved the disc into the player while turning the ignition. Listening to his words I realized that in all my years and in all that I have witnessed, life, love and experience, this young artist penned lyrics that enunciated my very thoughts. No, Brett’s lyrics actually translated each fiber of my thoughts from the unconscious emotions they are to words. His descriptions are nothing short of perfect. “Your Love is like the moon, sometimes I only get a sliver but I am hoping for a full moon tonight.” That’s what I am talking about. The CD is simple. Guitar, drums and a few dispersed vocal harmonies. That's all it needs. Kudos to the producers who could have taken each song and made them a commercial hit. Instead they chose to let each track remain what they were intended to be; organic, real and angelic. Thank you Brett Dennin for this simple portfolio of songs that will bring sunshine to my ears on dark cloudy days.
