Dig Jelly Biography
DIG JELLY is an LA based, high energy modern rock band with a lethal dose of Hip Hop. DIG JELLY is Rayko (vocal / guitar / keyboards), Joey Felix (drums), Robby Lochner (lead guitar), and Rain Balen (bass).

Soon after graduating from Jr. High in Japan, Rayko left everything behind and arrived in the US only to pursue her career in music. Having no connections, no friends, and no family, Rayko recorded some demos herself, packed her backpack with samplers, and started walking up to every person she met who gave her the chance to listen to her music. She took some of the harshest rejections and turned them into motivation. Nothing could break her determination and the promise she made to her parents when she left them.

Making little $ on demo sales and odd jobs, she managed to record her first low budget CD, "Purple Shoes," which grabbed the attention of an investor who offered to have it mastered at Glen Ballard's ("Jagged Little Pills" - Alanis Morissette) mastering studio in Hollywood.

Since then, Rayko recorded and released her 2nd CD, "Crave." On this release, you will find a major growth of her song writing skills and musicianship. "Crave" was produced by Dave Dunn and mastered by Bob Ludwig. It's filled with energetic, strong-hooked, mind-driving songs. Songs from "Crave" were featured in the movie "Micro Mini Kids" and MTV's "Undressed."

Rayko started playing at a whole bunch of clubs throughout California and managed to build a huge loyal following for her band RAYKO. After playing with quite a few amazing musicians, Rayko finally found three strangers from Arizona, whom she now calls "FAMILY". They've all lived, played, and went through some of the toughest times together, and after developing a strong chemistry over the years, Dig Jelly was born.

DIG JELLY independently released their 1st CD, "For Your Inner Angry Child." It was produced by Dig Jelly and engineered by Hector Ramirez at Desert Sand Studio. It comes with 3 bonus tracks produced and engineered at Indigo Ranch Studio by Richard Kaplan, who has produced such bands as Korn, the Deftones, and SlipKnot.
From this release, you can see the continued growth of Rayko's evident song writing skills that stay current and capture the attention of tomorrow's audience, as well as the band's strong chemistry and tight musicianship by their mind-blowing live performances. Tracks such as "Broken Trust," "Jaded," and "Whatever," with their dynamic sound, acid lyrics, and guitar-driven massive heart attack rhythm leave you feeling like you've just been assaulted!
Songs from "For Your Inner Angry Child" are featured in "St. Andrew's Girls" (theme song) by Lincoln Film, "Custody" (ending credits) by Lucid Vision, and in MTV shows such as "Surf Girls" and "Undressed."

On June 29, 2005, a historical moment raised upon Dig Jelly. DIG JELLY was offered, and signed, a three CD plus record contract with Centerline Entertainment (Santa Monica, CA) along with a worldwide distribution deal through D1 Music/IDN Innovative Corp. The label repackaged and re-released "For Your Inner Angry Child" and it hit the stores nationwide on November 8, 2005 during Dig Jelly's National Tour with Veruca Salt and The Lovemakers from Interscope. After playing 35 shows in 6 straight weeks, the band is now ready for everything and anything more than ever!

If you enjoy live performances, DIG JELLY is special to watch. They have a blend of raw energy and sex appeal that grabs the attention of everyone in any given venue. Their in your face attitude and showmanship on stage are not only well received by their audiences, but by anyone they meet. Show after show has proven to be a testament to their hard work and dedication proving their potential to do great things in the music industry throughout the world.

  • good, fast-paced

I like the singer's voice, and the fastpaced beat, and the angry edges of the music. On closer listening, the lyrics are kind of basic and simple.

This one deserves TEN STARS! Rayko is the real deal. Avril sings about Sk8rz, but Dig Jelly’s front woman IS one. Open the Cd & there’s a picture of her doin’ a 900 down a slope. A perfect blend of Hip-Hop & Heavy Rock, Dig Jelly has captured the energy of their live show & detailed it out in the studio with excellent production & tight musicianship. Crazy fun, with intentionally lo-fi samples on the title cut, & overdriven vocals on 3Karmice sounding like a Marshall at 11, there’s much more creativity here than you’d expect from a sk8 punk band. Pac Sun sportswear constantly has ‘em on their in-house systems, ‘cuz it stands up to repeated listening . For Your Inner Angry Child is one of those genre-defining discs that could change your mind about this kind of music. It’s that good. Even if you aren’t a fan of heavy rockin’ high energy music, you gotta check this one out. Drop it in your car stereo & it will make your wheels go faster. Stick it in your walkman & you won’t need that second shot of espresso. Go check out their live show & you’ll be a fan for life. I think I got whiplash listening to this CD. It rocks so hard it will make even the most stoic prune bang their head. Think I’ll go buy a skateboard…

  • rocking beats

I love this cd, although not as powerful as i expected, still surpassing the usual bar of everyday bands. This and 151 sould do a your together and/or create a cd together; THAT would be something worth hearing.

  • Best Independent CD of the Year 2003

The reason why I never bought any CDs in a while was because I got sick and tired of buying CDs filled with same songs after another. 2nd song is usually the alternate version of the first song, third song got the same verse but the different chorus of the second song ... you know the story. AND I FOUND DIG JELLY! I became the number one fan of this band right away! EVERY SINGLE SONG of their brand new CD "For Your Inner Angry Child" are GREAT, and so different from each other, yet, all in one theme! They express their "Anger", "Frustration", "desperation" in their music of hard core rock, punk, metal rap, Hip Hop rock and the straight rock ballad .....etc. They just leave you out of breath. And their songs are so original! No selling out here! The singer/writer Rayko (I think she is Asian), I'm assuming because of her back ground she's got the whole different twist on normality of somewhat stale American music, which makes it even more interesting! I'm telling you folks, you just gotta get this CD and listen to it yourself! It is the BEST INDEPENDENT CD OF THE YEAR 2003!!!

= Dig Jelly Sets the tone for new high energy , hip hop, punk Reviewer: Daniel J. Dzumek from Pacific Grove, CA United States If you have'nt heard of Dig Jelly, let me spread some jelly to the music world. Dig Jelly has started a new trend in the music industry. An L.A. based high energy hip hop, punk rock band that has all the ingredients to make you want to dance and rock out. With the help of Engineer Richard Kaplan ( Korn, Limp Bizkit), & Hector Ramirez this is one band that is about to break out big into the music scene. With songs already on MTV'S SURF GIRL'S, Rayko the lead singer and rythym guitarist really gives a new meaning to having a female front person. With the awesome shred-meister himself. Toggo is the ultimate axeman, accompanied with the great Joey Felix bashing the sticks and the fabulous Rain on bass, and last but certainly not least DJ Atley a.k.a. The Scratch Master. There is'nt much more to say but to go and buy this cd before Dig Jelly takes off. This incredible line up is very tight and very good. If you get a chance to see them perform live, do it before it's too late. Because good seats will no longer be available as this band will surely be headlining crowds of 20,000 or more very soon.
