notes
The first time I heard a great song that delivered truth and beauty on the wings of a heart-breaking melody, I knew that I was in love forever. I grew up on Long Island and through a long and checkered path that rivals any taken by Pip or David Copperfield, I morphed into a big firm trial lawyer in Atlanta with the support of a woman whose heart was made for me and mine for her. And always at my back I heard the sounds of some song of my own -- and I finally found the time and the reason to go into a studio and record my songs one by one, always hoping they contained a grain of the special something that always leaves me breathless when I hear it --the power of a great song is unbelievable. There are 20 tracks on this CD. Sometimes, I think one or two of them are not bad, but most times, I just shake my head. But the funny thing about songs is that we are not in charge and we do not know how they will touch the hearts of others. If one of these gets to you, then I know why I wrote it after all -- it was for you. Thanks for listening.

Review From CD Babel
author: CD BabelLyric Rating: Lyric Comments: Doc Schneider hits a home run with a combination of mature and memorable lyrics. His lyrics are sweet, heartfelt, very personal, and haunting. "I made my hands/ in the shape of chords/ that I learned from sheets/ in the music stores/ I was alone/ I was unseen/ But I sang along/ and it set me free...Souvenirs and love songs/ stars that fall at night,/ like the captain and the cowboy,/ we all fall in love sometimes./" This is the sort of Americana vision that Doc Schneider brings the table. Doc Schneider often hints to what I can only assume is his current carrier as a lawyer and how this has affected his life and his music. He is playful with this on the song "Legal Guitarist." "I am your legal guitarist,/My briefs use up entire forests,/ You see those pine trees over there/ Pretty soon they'll all be bare/This forest doesn't stand a prayer/ Against this lawyer with no hair/ I know the law, I know the facts/ I'm a communicator/ I'll take you there, I'll bring you back/ I am a mediator./ The hired gun in your gunrack/ I am a litigator/ You've just got to catch my act/ as a legal gladiator" Really, these are not lyrics any other artist could write. That he can poke fun at what he has chosen to do with his life just makes him that much more lovable. On the title track "Choices and Chances" he tackles the tough choices of his life and compares them to his fathers. This song is lightly gut wrenching...you can hear the regret, the resignation, and yet the joy that his choices have brought him. Mix Rating: Mix Comments: The mix of this album is its only true downfall. While I enjoy the constant light reverb used on his voice, it could have been a little lighter on some of the tracks. Sometimes the levels are just plain wrong. On some tracks you have to struggle to hear his voice. Also, sometimes his guitar pops in a very unpleasant way. Music Rating: Music Comments: The music is pretty standard singer song writer fair. He sounds like a mix between Paul Simon and John Bucchino. He has a wonderful sense of melody and his guitar playing plays second fiddle to his singing and words. Feel Rating: Feel Comments: This guy just melts me. Its nice to hear someone who made choices that didn't bring him down the musical path come back to the music with such strong music. This is definitely going on my five star playlist and belongs in any collection of fine singer songwriters.
My favorite is "Wherever You Are" Makes me think of days gone by.
author: Diane StidhamThe entire CD is grand. It is the type of music that takes you back to good times gone by and friends of yesterday. Everyone song was special.
Inspiring, beautiful songs full of passion and wonder...
author: Marcia A. L. StevensonListen to the lyrics if you want to be reminded of the songs, seems like ages ago, that would touch your heart and make you reflect on life's true jewels.
Songs that take you into your own heart, softly, deeply.
author: Virginia McGuffeyThe title song has been playing in my head and heart since the first day I heard it. It has all the good things a great song should have - perfect well-written lyrics, engaging melody, a good voice to sing it and a message that strikes a nerve, full of a sad and undeniable truth, but with a hope that softens the blow. Track four is one of the most clever and funny songs I have ever heard. The others are warm and soothing, songs that will take you back to the 70s when music was from the heart and when a man with a soul and a guitar could give them life.
