notes

"Take advice, don't question the experts.
Don't think twice, you just might listen.
Run and hide, to the corners of your mind, alone...
like a Nobody Nowhere..."

The words to the song Nobody Nowhere appeared in 20 languages around the world and read by millions of readers of Donna's book of the same name, but nobody ever heard the song till now on this incredible debut album (and individual tracks are also available from iTunes).

Nobody Nowhere is an epic musical journey of autistic singer songwriter, Donna Williams; someone who lived through some of the most challenging things life can throw; abuse, poverty, homelessness, disability and nevertheless sees the world through the eyes of an optimist, a lover of people, life and humanity. It's an album about daring and about reaching out, connecting, building bridges, taking chances, when and while you can.

Donna Williams' voice, whilst a style and sound all its own has been compared with greats like Missy Higgins, Jewel, Corinne Bailey Rae, Nathalie Maines (of the Dixie Chicks), Tori Amos, Nanci Griffith, Juliana Hatfield, Helen Reddy and Karen Carpenter. Her phrasing and lyrics, whilst in English, have been described as in the unique tradition of "French Chanson".

Two of the songs on the Nobody Nowhere CD , "Beyond The When" and "Sometimes" feature in the TBS hit international TV series, "Things You Taught Me" starring Rie Tomosaka and Takaya Kamikawa.

Like a long buried treasure, the music and songs on the Nobody Nowhere CD span over a decade of song writing. Though it took her years till she could finally dare to let others hear her sing, she has what is an almost startlingly pure and honest voice.

Nobody Nowhere is an album of awesome contrasts, from capturing alienation like in the track 'Enemy Lines' (which made the top 50 Jazz tracks on American Idol Underground) to the hauntingly beautiful and atmospheric track of, "Ocean Deep".

The Nobody Nowhere album is a quality production of flowing, yet diverse styles produced by award winning film and TV music composer/producer, Paul Farrer. This CD is musically, lyrically and vocally beautiful, powerful and moving, even teasing and humorous at times. It is a musical dance of the soul, unchained. It's multifaceted, quirky and surprising.

So much for the labels on the jam jar; deaf, disturbed, autistic; of which Donna certainly had her share. We are so much more than labels or categories, any of us, and the album, Nobody Nowhere shows us that in abundance.

Explore this album, complete with a lyrics booklet that comes with it featuring lyrics to all the tracks on the album. Then, follow Donna's musical journey from here into the beautiful work of her second album 'Mutation'.

NB: Proceeds from this album contribute to the running costs of the first online international self employment facility for people with autism at www.auties.org

    author: M from California

This CD radiates quality from start to finish. Donna's voice is sensational. The songs are all captivating in different ways -- with various musical styles and gorgeous melodies. The words are touching, haunting, insightful, witty, and wise. I hesitate to list favorite songs, because more than half of the songs rank as favorites for me, but perhaps tracks 4, 7, and 12 are ultra favorites with nine others being close runner-ups. Wonderful CD!

  • Her songs put my feelings into words!
    author: Sara

These songs put my feelings into words - words that I never had. I can't describe the joy I felt when I first heard Donna's music. I have autism also and could never explain what was different about me. I can't wait for her next CDs!

  • The Music and words are wonderful, powerful, inciteful
    author: Kris S. Johnston

The music, words, feelings this CD invokes has left all who have heard it here in my office calmer than when they came in. It has helped me appreciate all that my son, who is Autistic, has experienced in his young life and to help me look at things from possibly his point of view. Thank you so much for sharing this talent with us.

  • Great music
    author: Ines

The music of "Nobody Nowhere" helps me to set free who really lives within myself. At times it makes me fly, cry and be happy at the same time. Also, some of the words capture the things that are hidden for nonautistics, touching gently wonderful worlds of color and light. Thank you for making that wonderful CD!

  • I'm really glad to know someone like you is in this world. Thank you so much. Yo
    author: koji

I'd say this CD itself is really good one, but English is not my first language, so sometimes I can hardly understand what the singer is singing because she sings really fast. However, reading the lyrics as listning to the music, it reminds me of my backgrounds like school age or my parents. This CD is definitely for me.

  • it's all so real
    author: Ana

I've listened to the cd 'nobody nowhere' probably more times than any other cd I own. Every word, every note - it's all so real. I can't say which song is my favourite because I love them all. I sing along, I feel the words, my spirit dances and laughs and cries.

  • Sensitive, utterly human and all about soul! Cool!
    author: Dr Miriam Kennedy

I just loved the diversity - funny, sad, cool, breezy, funky. Sometimes, Too Sensitive, Shoes, Moving On were my favorites. Life is for celebrating -the good and the bad- when you listen to this.

  • Beautiful
    author: Jan Feenstra

I have Asperger Syndrome and am brain/meaning nearsighted, but at least now I KNOW. For me lyrics are very important and these certainly speak to me. My favorite songs are Ocean deep and Little bit of time. Beautiful!

we danced along to Donna's CD through endless summer mornings , being moved deeply and lifted up highly at the same time. The music can take you flying away or you can just ride along with it. You can meet different feelings in different songs and my favorite song changes accordingly. I hope there will be a sequel........
