notes

From across the snowy wastelands and sunny plains of Canada comes the Adventure Metal of Dream Quest! Bursting with energy, and hard to erase from your mind (though, why would you want to?), this is music written to be the soundtrack to everyone's adventures!

Dream Quest is ecstatic to present Centralia, their second album, in stores now! As their first release since 2004's The Release, Centralia will retain the trademark speed, excitement, catchiness, and creativity, but don't expect it to be simply more of the same. Centralia is bigger sounding and more dynamic, lead singer Phil Janzen has outdone himself by pushing his voice to glorious new heights, and there are 3000% more vocals than on The Release!

Centralia is also a one-of-a-kind concept album. The five tracks each tell one part of an overarching story, but the order in which the songs are played changes the plot! Putting the CD player on random/shuffle determines whether the main character is good or bad, killer or dreamer, hypocrite or saint, without missing a beat! Centralia is 120 different possible stories on one album, yet the music flows equally well from song to song in any order!

Founded in 2001 by Steve and Mark Doerksen and Phil Janzen, the trio originally performed and recorded some demos under several different names. Though show dates were few and far between in the early days, the response to the raw talent and creativity in the band was overwhelming. This encouragement prompted more writing, more shows, and, combined with the band's own insatiable love of music and metal, led to where they are now. Dream Quest has since toured to great receptions across four provinces and performed with the legendary Stratovarius and Anvil; the reigning kings of power metal Dragonforce and Sonata Arctica; and fellow Canadians, Into Eternity and Protest the Hero.

To give people the best idea of what Dream Quest sounds like the band coined the term Adventure Metal. Combining blazing fast drums, mesmerising guitars, soaring melodies, and cascades of harmonies, it's catchier than speed metal, heavier than pop-punk, and more innovative than hard rock. Adventure Metal is also fun. Part of the reason Dream Quest exists is simply to make people happy, whether by their unique and totally engaging stage shows or just by the music itself. No matter what age or musical preference, everyone is blown away by a Dream Quest show! Tim Roth of Into Eternity is glad that there is "finally some good Power Metal coming out of Canada. They have catchy songs and the right attitude to go far!"

Fast. Fun. Furious. If Indiana Jones, Conan the Barbarian, and a ninja wearing a jet pack joined forces, even they could not match the excitement that is Dream Quest!

With this album, Dream Quest prove that they are one of the most original metal band! Nobody sounds like that. Half hour of pure pleasure! Will the next be longer?

Dream Quest is a good, solid CD. It's Adventure Metal coming to the jam in Power's best spiked leather. The vocals have 1/2 a riff of pop-punk too much. But that's more style signature than wrong turn. Get it. Play it. You'll be calling your friends over to hear it.

  • Great Cd, Great band, Check it out!

Dream Quest's Centralia is by far one of the best albums I've ever heard. Their first album was great, and for a second album centralia is even better. Although there are only five songs which is a little bit of a dissapointment, the album's concept and song length makes up for that. The fact that you can listent to the songs in many combonations and have a different story to it all is pretty cool. So for only $15.00 this cd is well worth it. I suggest you check it out!

  • Adventure Metal!

Manitoba, Canada’s Dream Quest returns in 2006 with a 5 song concept CD entitled "Centralia" which it recorded in follow up to its promising 2004 full length debut "The Release". Still consisting of founding members Steve and Mark Doerksen and Phil Janzen, Dream Quest is a talented power trio that plays what it refers to as “adventure metal”. Adventure metal? Well, while the above definition shines the needed light on the matter, I might describe Dream Quest as an effective combination of double bass driven power metal and speed metal drawing upon the influence of Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce, Iron Maiden, Manowar, Stratovarius, Judas Priest and Seventh Avenue. In the end, "Centralia" does a good job showcasing the maturity gained by Dream Quest in its songwriting skills since putting out "The Release". The band, for example, delivers a sound that is not only sweeping and complex (“The Fuse That Burned Too Fast”) but catchy as well (“Sonar con Aventura”). Ultimately, you will find the albums compositions to be quite technical – even progressive at times as demonstrated on the eleven minute epic “Magnified” – but well constructed in holding up under the bands creativity and the all out raw energy generated by its instrumental prowess. • Dream Quest delivers again!!!
    author: Marc Ryan

If you own "The Release" you will not be disappointed by this album. This album delivers with that same techness, progressiveness, harmonies, vocals, solos, you name it. Even though this album is a bit slower than their previous, I find the songs were more thought of in general. The ideas that came out of this album were very original, while the vocals are much more significant as you can hear Phil's great voice even more. In Canada, they are tops; hopefully they get more recognition worldwide. They deserve it.

I must say that this CD is truly one-of-a-kind. The songs really do flow seamlessly into another and it scared me at one point at how good it was. The songs are extremely catchy so beware. I found myself singing one ALL DAY yesterday. You will not regret buying this CD. So buy it now, and buy some more for your friends and start a Centralia epidemic!

  • Holy Crap!!!

As if you guys actually outdid yourselves. I mean just when you think it can't get any better, it DOES! The new material is killer and your style is becoming more and more out there for the world to see, at this point no band sounds like you do. Seriously, this is all I'm listening to right now, you guys have made the album of the year! Keep it up!!
