notes
Evie Boss is a singing naturalist(and yes, she is for the birds, and the bugs, and the slugs...) whose passion is to get both children and adults excited about life long learning, the nature of science, and discovery outdoors. Evie has been doing programs for preschool and elementary students and is listed in the Michigan Arts and Humanities Touring Program. She also provides workshops for teachers and parents as to using the multiple intelligence approach to learning.
Besides the songs there are 9 additional poems to read with your child in this cardstock, spiral bound illustrated book. There is a page of riddles. This is a great tool to introduce the subject of birds and their life cycles as well as encouraging basic identification skills. The booklet also has multiple intelligence suggestions and additional fun facts about birds. Children and adults love these songs. Evie has sung" Feed Those Babies" at inspirational concerts and had 100 adults peeping like baby birds! While they are singing and laughing they are also realizing that human parental care is quite similar!
"We have been singing your songs as well. The info you gave me was helpful. I specifically enjoyed the activity ideas and songs."
Kathy Swegels, kindergarten teacher in Northville
"The remarks we received both from teachers and students were extremely positive. Not only did they delight in your program, but learned a great deal also. Yours is such a pleasant medium to transmit a knowledge and love of
nature... and I especially appreciate your interest and enthusiasm in doing so" Sally Fraser, former president of North Hill PTA in Rochester
"Just wanted to say thank you again for the super program you provided for my second graders... I am enclosing some letters they wrote you...they want to be sure you remember them after you become famous."
Marilyn Kevern, Brewster Elementary, Rochester
And my absolute favorite is from a second grader: Robin Nagel

Who's the Boss?
Hi, I'm Evie Boss. I have been playing
guitar for 30+ years. I started writing
songs because if they were mine no one
would know if I messed up!!!!
I have been teaching Biology for 31 years and use my guitar occasionally in the classroom to introduce a concept. It all started when I wrote a funny song about the parts of an earthworm. I was surprised to discover that my former students would come back and be able to sing "Willy the Worm" two years later!! I have found music to be a wonderful teaching tool as well as creative outlet for many of my students.
I have been creating environmental programs for elementary schools and nature centers for 20 years using a variety of materials and songs. I have helped schools develop courtyards and grounds to encourage wildlife, started recycling programs, and raised orphan and injured animals.
My children's albums are always easy listening with a variety of styles from country, folk, pop, to Dr. Seuss-like poems. I pride myself on clear vocals so that the words are heard. I also provide a booklet with lyrics and suggested activities to promote multiple intelligence learning. I have been blessed to see extremely shy children and even autistic children respond to my music.
It took a bout with breast cancer (survivor since 1996) to give me the courage to begin sharing my inspirational music at various retreats in the midwest. My "Heart Songs" provide music which inspires, promotes healing, and encourages personal growth. In 2006 I had surgery for thyroid cancer and now have a CD about surviving cancer("When Cancer Calls") with all proceeds helping others through Gilda's Club.
I am a member of the Science Songwriter's Association as well as a member of Environmental Songwriters.
I am honored to be listed in the 2006-2009 touring program directory of the Michigan Arts and Humanities Council. I not only perform for children but have recently begun doing programs for teachers which touch on topics such as stress management, using music in all disciplines, inexpensive hands-on activities, and the multiple intelligences approach.
My greatest wish for all is that we each always carry a song in our heart,
Evie
