Buy It, Love It
author: OydmanI've owned "Go Go Guitars" for a number of years and keep hearing it on the PA at Surf/Rockabilly shows! Packed with stylish originals, this disc is a must-have if you enjoy Dick Dale, Los Straitjackets, and the Challengers. Solid production values too. A wise choice for the retro-minded music fan.
9 of the 16 songs are sounds to activate the cells in your body.
author: Craig JonesThe songs Jetsetter, Apache, Exotic Twists, Casbah, and Gasser are power songs that get your blood moving. Vila Nova, Diamond Head and Theme from an Exotic Dream have sounds and rhythms that can grow in you as you listen to them over again.
Fun!
author: StuSo great to hear that this kind of fun beach music hasn't died out, and that groups like this are still recording and making their music available. I heard this group on NPR, and immediately rushed to the computer to get the CD. It's a great deal and great to put on when you're sitting on your deck, heading down to the shore, or just in the mood for some beach party music.
Exotics Revive the Polynesian Instrumental Electric Surf Power Band
author: Charles Austin MillerUnless you're a baby boomer who grew up with this music, or a confirmed nostalgia geekus, you might not realize that The Exotics are a contemporary group that is reviving the sound of the old surf guitar band, in the tradition of Dick Dale, The Ventures, Link Wray and a small handful of others. This was the sound of an electric lead guitar with nonstop whammy effects (sometimes 2 leads), an electric rhythm guitar, an electric bass, a drum set, and sometimes (but not always) an electric organ, washing over you like an over-amped tsunami on a South Seas resort beach. This music, more than any other, is EQUATED with surfing and all the light-headedness that goes along with surfing. Unfortunately, if a surf tune doesn't grab you by the balls, it can be pretty torturous listening. So, it's not surprising that The Exotics cover a lot of lame ground on "Go Go Guitars"... This is, after all, in the tradition of the great surf bands of days gone by—even the most famous surf bands churned out a hundred lousy songs for every good one. On the whole, I think The Exotics' "Go Go Guitars" is a good CD, a great tribute to surf music, and quite remarkable if for no other reason than the fact that The Exotics are a midwestern band that mostly tours the midwest---about as far removed from the surf and sunny beaches as they can be. I'd say definitely buy this one, but take the time to compare it with some of the original surf bands for a full appreciation of the music.
A good album - when is a newer one coming!!
author: Joe SHeard this group on "Prairie Home Comapnion" (of all places). Thought their surf sound was excellent. Took much time to track down this album. But now that you found it - buy yourself a copy.
Fantastic to dance to and lose weight
author: Marion FurlongIt is great to listen to electric guitar music. It is rare these days to come across this great lively sound I first heard in the 60's but even better. Well done!!!

these guys really bring the nostalgia of the early 60's sounds to the present. along with their own compositions, they do excellent covers of four songs. the only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the total time of music on this cd is too short. the cover on the cd is slick and not cheesy or loud! well done, exotics!
