notes
"No my dear dervish," whispered the soothsayer as he stared deep into my eyes, "you don't seem to comprehend. The will of God is akin to the wind, and we are the sand grains of the desert. He is the root of the action, not the action itself. We are not the action either but the expressions of the will."
Noticing my perplexed look, he proceeded:
"Have you ever seen the wind? Of course not. Why? Because it is just air. It is invisible. But you see the sand moving as the reverberation of the proximity of the wind. This is how life is. The magnificence of the wind is concealed ere it encounters the sand. The power of the sand is hidden prior to the arrival of the wind. The potency and grandeur are neither in the wind nor in the sand, But in their interaction. You don't dread the wind and you don't tremble at the sand, but you fear the sandstorm. That is the way life is, it is a blizzard, a sandstorm."
From the liner notes
Known to the Middle Eastern music fans as the violinist for the popular band TURKU, Farzad has dazzled audiences as a master of the art of Taksim (solo Improvisation). His distinctive musical style merges his knowledge of the classical Persian Radif with the feverish passion of Middle Eastern folk music. It transcends the artificial boundaries of diverse cultures of the region, combining the splendid rhythms of Arabia, Turkish Makams, and the Persian radif, in a unique, stunning blend. In spite of having studied with some of the greatest masters of his art form, he names the gypsy musicians of his small hometown as his greatest musical influences.
Sandstorm is a collection of Farzad Farhangi's original compositions. It is unique in that it is music written primarily for dancers by a musician trained in the classical traditional Persian music. It is, therefore, not only lively and well suited for dancers, but also a collection of beautiful and original musical scenes.

Wow, this is good stuff!
author: BarbaraThis CD was my first intro to Farzad Farhangi, and I loved it. The more I listen, the more I like what I hear, and the more it makes me want to dance. I was hooked as soon as I heard the beginning of Mosaic, the music is just awesome.
Sophisticated Music.
author: MelitaSophisticated Musically. But, I must confess as a DS9 Fan it just does something for me to say I own something done by a Farhangi.
This music is so soulfully beautiful brings tears to my eyes.
author: MelitaSome of this music is very lyrical and soulful. " Long ago and far away" is almost painfully beautiful to me. Tracks 1 and 3 are my favorites to belly dance to. Nice combination of slow and upbeat. I like music that has a conversation with me.
Beautiful music suitable for bellydancing
author: AntheaMy dance students LOVE this music (especially "Mosaic") - as do I. I also like the fact that there's a mix of rhythms & time signatures; and all are dancable. Great work Farzad, we'll be on the lookout for your next CD!
