notes

Formed in the spring of 2001, the origins of Foxy Moon Baby began as a recording experiment between guitarist and composer Dennis Lippe, drummer Casey O'Connor, and audio engineer Tom Campbell. Utilizing their in-depth knowledge of jazz harmony and rhythm, the trio composed songs with uncommon time and key signatures, driven by rock and funk beats, and a focus towards unique textures for each song. Eleven original songs, first slated for a Dennis Lippe solo album, were re-arranged and crafted to create a musical sound, unique from the humdrum world of popular music.

Near the completion of the album, an opportunity was presented to debut this new and experimental material at Phish's It Festival. From this opportunity, an 8-piece live band was formed consisting of a 3-piece horn section, dual guitars, and a veteran rhythm section of bass, drums, and percussion. The name they created for this live band was Foxy Moon Baby.

With the success and national buzz generated from the It Festival, Foxy Moon Baby pushed into the live music scene establishing notable performances and rotations in venues throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, in addition to performing various festivals including Mayfair and the Doylestown Music & Arts Festival.

In early 2005, Foxy Moon Baby was compelled to relocate its operations to Bayville, NY from the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, causing a change in the band's original line-up of musicians. Continuing to strive for nothing less than excellence, FMB focused on obtaining only the best performers, and with the introduction of keyboards to the sound, the band has become more musically diversified, polished, and stronger than ever.

Foxy Moon Baby is currently expanding its performing territory throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, and is prospecting for a prominent record label to support an upcoming studio album. The band often releases its Foxy Moon Booties, an original live music series of FMB shows, and continues to perform in a rotation of venues throughout the Northeast.

  • Good music, vocals out of place
    author: Chris

This is a really good cd, but the songs with vocals are really out of place to me. The vocals, while done well, seem slow and take away from the high energy of the music.

  • An amazing original sound

I saw your show in New Hope last week and was blown away. I bought your album and listened to it on the way home and it has not left my CD player since. What a great polished album that everytime I listen to it, I hear something completely new. Highly recommended listening!

  • Great cd!!
    author: Bill

I picked this cd up a few weeks ago. I think it is a fantastic jam band cd without all the dead slop. The compositions are on the money and the production is very good. I hope I can see these guys live soon. I have heard through the grapevine that there show rocks as much as the cd. The cd paints a colorful picture by using many different instruments and voices to send you on a very worthwhile journey. If you like good musicianship, compositions, and improvisation this is the cd for you!
