Exquisite Harmonies, High Energy

Australian sensation, FRUIT are on their way to becoming one of the hottest new music exports from Down Under. With 3 frontline women - Susie Keynes, Sam Lohs and Mel Watson, 2 wielding electric and acoustic guitars and the other commanding an arsenal of horns. Each of them sings, writes and locks seamlessly to the other. It's a vocal blend reminiscent of the great harmonisers of our time.

Add to this collaboration the snap lock brotherly groove of the rhythm section: Yanya Boston's gutsy, rhythmic passion on drums, Brian Ruiz's groove-laden bass and two more velvet voices.

That is Fruit. Hard to pin down- perhaps best described as acoustic pop, Fruit's eclectic set also touches funk, blues, rock and groove.

Of outrageous appeal however are the strength of the vocals and the dramatic use of harmonies.

Operating independently since 1995, this music and performance powerhouse has grown from an instantly popular local outfit based in Adelaide, Australia, to an internationally renowned and sort after festival attraction.

From the WOMAD circuit to the Edinburgh Fringe - the U.S. and Canadian Festivals to the outback of home - five years of solid international touring has defined the depth and reach of this band.

Be it heart-lifting ballads, gut wrenching blues, scorching torch or rocky liberation, FRUIT delivers something for everyone, if you like music that fires your imagination, that is...

Taylor Holliday _The Wall Street Journal

'Spanning the register from warm sensuality to soaring, searing passion, quick-fire rap to a belly-deep blusey growl. Irresistible all round entertainment."_The Scotsman, Edinburgh

"In the 27 year history of Summerfolk, seldom have we presented an act who had such an overwhelming impact on the entire show. Fruit shattered our CD sales record and we can't wait to share them with our patrons once again this year. FRUIT is one of those live acts that just have to be SEEN!!" _ Don Bird Artistic Director

"...destined to be one of the great acts of the new millennium' _ Steven Schmidt, Rochester City Civic Arts

  • Good, but repetative if you have some of the other CD's.

This is a great CD, the rendition of Mamma Mamma is excellent:downside is if you have other Fruit CD's a lot of the song titles will be repeated. Still worth it though!

  • LOVE IT!!!

Love it so much that in 3 days I had most lyrics memorized and my 4 year old daughter has 2 fav songs too! This means a lot for those of you w/out kids. The women have beautiful voices that have emotion which pulses through your body.

Excellent musicians - each one! And, as they say, the Sum is greater than all the parts. Wonderful sound. I was hooked from experiencing a live performance at Bethlehem Musikfest -- please come back next year. (...Move over Melissa Ethridge)

  • Just plain Great! Makes you want to play it over and over.

Wild Angel will get your feet tapping, while Island will make you think. Alameda is a Fruit classic already. This CD along with Live at the Church are a must for any collection. Fruit never disappoints me.

Fruit's live CD gives you an idea of how great it is to see this band live. Trying to compare their sound to other band's is futile; you have to listen, from the soulful "Mama" with Mel's incredible voice to the heart-wrenching "All this time", the tracks on this disk are amazing.
