notes

Whether playing a house concert or performing on the main-stage, Rachel brings a musical style that is intimate and accomplished. Her four albums feature songs that have been noted for their vivid storytelling, and gained her recognition on the songwriting stages at the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, the Iowa Women’s Music Festival, and the South Florida Folk Festival.

Rachel is based in New York, and tours nationally, appearing regularly at venues such as Berkeley's Freight and Salvage and NYC's The Rockwood Music Hall. Her live performance is a mix of character-filled songs and stories.

After recording a live album at the Freight several years ago, Rachel moved from the Bay Area to New York to work with producer Ben Wisch. The result is her June release, Bound to be Mountains a 12-song record with basslines from Tony Levin, percussion from Glen Velez, and guitar and mandola from Duke Levine.

A recent review in Edge notes that Rachel’s “music and lyrics both demonstrate an ability to create concise, precise, and brightly colorful stories that fit into three-minute songs but feel complete.”(K.Melloy)

According to the San Francisco Bay Guardian, her themes are "fresh and often unexpectedly moving: the friendships of thirteen-year-old girls, her grandmother's dancing, a little boy worrying about the vandals who dump their garbage on his family's lawn." (C.Gerst)

Rachel’s songs have aired on Click and Clack’s Car Talk, Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now!, and college and community radio stations from Durango, Colorado to South Florida. This year, one of Rachel’s songs was featured on the soundtrack of Fields of Fuel, the audience choice winner at the Sundance Film Festival.
