notes

Rachelle Garniez, singer / songwriter / accordionist / performer was born into a musical family in New York City and has been devoted to music ever since. She began playing the accordion in 1986, and her explorations have taken her from playing on the subway platforms and in the clubs of New York to jamming with gypsies in Spain and performing at Carnival in Venice. Her compositions reflect influences ranging from the Blues, Continental and Klezmer to Latin Jazz and Country/Western. Billboard Magazine called her a "diva with a difference", and San Franciscoís Bay Area Reporter described her as "wistful, sardonic, sentimental and wry."

She formed her own band, The Fortunate Few, in 1996 and they released their first CD, Serenade City in 1998. recorded on Rachelle's own Real Cool Records label, Serenade City received critical praise in Billboard Magazine and other publications. Rachelle Garniez & The Fortunate Few released Crazy Blood (Real Cool), their follow-up CD in March 2001. Both CDs are available online at CD Baby.

Your *Lucky Day CD* makes me feel a lucky man!

  • Make-out with Belzebub and Gabriella
    author: Michael Hickins

Luckyday is the perfect make-out CD--for both men and women; it evokes and inspires the strokes and elasticities necessary to the achievement of mental and physical ecstasy. Rachelle Garniez has an angelic and devilish voice that she abuses to beautiful effect; the only drawback to this CD is that it somewhat constrains, softens and muffles her range.

  • ...Garniez is a master of surprise.
    author: Michael Small, Entertainment Weekly

Slipping between pop, polka, country, ska, jazz, and yodeling, while playing accordion, piano, guitar, and plastic bells, Garniez is a master of surprise. Her CD is available only online, but fans of Bjork, Sinead, and Rickie Lee should seek it out.

  • Another tour de force by Rachelle.....
    author: Ron D.

Rachelle again showcases her songwriting ability along with flawless musicianship. Luckyday is a great song, Red Roses a real change of pace as is Medicine Man. All super songs, done with a thoughtful wit, and superb musicians. What a fun experience. You just gotta smile when you hear it!

  • Better and Better
    author: Tom Gould

Radhelle delivers another journey through space and time. On any given day a different song will be my favorite. Right now my favorite is January Wind, a meloncholy masterpiece. Medicine Man is Rachelle at her best. Playful. Brilliant. Her lyrics are quite simply the best. "I'm tried of thinking with my head," "Your lucky day just dawned on you" or "We know what you did with the kid in the candy store." Talk about a turn of a phrase. I know I am supposed to keep this short, but tomorrow I will be kicking myself for not telling you about the hundred of other cool things I hear evrytime I play this CD. You must add this to your cart and hear for yourself. That's when it rains red roses.
