As one of the most gifted soul jazz organists to emerge from the state of Rhode Island, Lonnie Gasperini has grooved night club goers from coast to coast.Lonnie is a Hammond B3 purist. When he sits down at the organ he becomes one with it, He controls the organ completely and can make it whisper or scream. Lonnie can be very percussive at times or very laid back in his approach.He also can be a wild man as stated in a recent review by the International Archives for Jazz Organists. An organization started by Juergon Wolf in Europe which promotes Organists.


Lonnie's history includes touring and recording with the group 'Cannabis" in the early 70's and is featured on the recently reissued CD "A Joint Effort" and includes his original tune "Only Rock in Stock".

Lonnie is the featured organist on the late Jeff Terra recording 'Groovin in the Galaxy" and he grooves on his original "Grooves Blues." which was recorded by "Atonement Records.
Also appearing on this CD is the sultry Miss Lavern Sims,one of the new breed Show Song Stylists emerging from the universe of yesterday which birthed such great legends as Billie Holiday,Bessie Smith,Josephine Baker,Ella Fitzgerald,Sarah Vaughn, and Carmen McRae.Most are gone but few still remain today to carry the torch which lights the Horizon of true heartfelt Jazz lovers.
You have but to hear Miss Sims once to know that she has picked up the torch and will carry it with greatness. She has the gift and a mysterious quality which makes it impossible for one to sit still during her performance.She reaches inside the heart and soul and pulls her audience to her, thus making them part of it which leaves them sitting and wanting more--long after the show is over and the last note has been sung. It is this great combination of Hammond organ, in a style in which only Lonnie can play along with Lavern's feeling and emotion which makes Lonnie's latest CD
a must for everyone who loves Hammond b3 organ and great
vocals to add to their collection.
Also featured on this Cd is baritone sax man Art Hazard. His sound may remind you of Cecil Payne or Gerry Mulligan. His robust sound may be heard on the tune organic manic, or his sweet gentle approach as in Well be together again adds yet another rare marriage of organ and bari sax.
Keeping the groove and laying it in the pocket is the young drummer Mark Teixeira who covers all styles and is now the featured drummer for guitarist Duke Robillard.
On guitar Broc DeChristopher wails on organic manic and adds the right touch on ballads.

    I love jazz organ and this cd kept me smiling for quite awile. The grooves are great, right in the pocket. My gripes are I don't like the bari sax player. His tone and style left me flat. The singer was OK but doesn't belong on a jazz organ cd. Keep it to the trio.

    I have this CD and love every track. I was lucky to see Lonnie live in concert in Saratoga, New York where he autographed my CD for me. He is so vibrant in person. I sat right in front of his organ and speakers. He blew my socks off when he played songs from this CD, which sound even more fantastic, when hearing them live and watching him slam on the keys of his B-3 organ.

    This is an enjoyable CD for lover of the B3! The B3 comes alive with both its power and its softer side on numerous cuts. Also, the mix of the band with Lonnie is a good one.     Lonnie's Blues,a nice work highlighting the harmony of the musicians working together.On their lively version of Sweet Georgia Brown, the individual solo work is excellent.Each song is an adventure with the jazz organ as only Lonnie Gasperini an play it.Vocals by Lavern Sims will stir many a good feeling for jazz listeners new to her voice.One of the best jazz organists playing today,Turn up the gas is fun, and very likeable!

    Blues that doesn't blue. It cooks the meat all the way through, and bleeds through to Makin Whoopie.I fully dug the way Lonnie keeps the organ grinding, alternating instrumentals and vocals.We're treated to a nimble little dance like Blue Suede Shoes,than we get a dose of honky sax from Sissy Strut.Vocals are sweet on Sweet Georgia Brown and You've Changed.Good combo.

    This is a refreshing CD with many nice turnarounds and great groves. It is a nice mix of styles from standards to funk. Overall a great CD, It could have had a little more engineering in the studio mixing but is still a must have CD.

    This is a great Hammond B3 cd played by a very soulful group that never loses the groove whether playing original tunes or standards on this cd.Lonnie plays the Hammond B3 in the tradition of Jimmy Smith and Groove Holmes,but has his own thing.This cd has a great selection of tunes with some vocals by Lavern Sims that is true jazz singing and fine baritone sax solos by Art Hazard.This is a cd that you will not get tired of!!!

    The entire group sounded great each complimenting the other For this fan of Jazz I was surprisingly pleased to come across this cd keep up the good work and would like to hear more vocals as well she must have been reincarnated from the 40s her style is authentic as well as the entire group!
