notes
Self Taught Guitarist/Composer based in Miami, Florida. Born 1953 in Pt. Pleasant, NJ.
Draws on a number of musical influences from the traditional finger pickers, such as, Merle Travis and Mississippi John Hurt to classical modernists such as Hans Werner Henze and Dusan Bogdanovic.
The album Jical represents a cross-section of many different musical styles including tributes to John Fahey and Sabicas.
The piece Jical (pronounced heekall) is a call and response representation of a dialog with the creator. It opens with a basic theme, then states a question with more and more anxiety in hope of a response. It's eventually answered by the main voice.
Hudson Street Fantasy is called that because I used to pass a small tavern on Hudson Street that featured Flamenco acts. I never went in, but came to later find out that Sabicas lived in New York from 1955 to his death in 1990. The piece is a selection of my favorite Sabicas elements in my own voice.
Derek Sivers says:
"Absolutely AMAZING solo acoustic guitar. Not exactly "classical", it blends Flamenco, Folk, and modern Jazz in on a nylon-string classical guitar. You won't believe this is all played by one person on one guitar. Every guitarist should hear this. Every fan of beautiful guitar should buy this. A true virtuoso."
Alfredo Figueroa of Concert Guitars, Inc and the Miami Guitar Alliance describes his music as: "Classical, yet aggressive."
Also a painter and sculptor, all of the album artwork was created by him. The front cover is a 5 by 6 foot painting entitled "Personage of March". The back cover is a 4 by 5 foot painting entitled "Self Portrait No. 1".

a fairly exact split of Fahey vs. Flamenco
author: Dan LethamGot my copy of JICAL today - Well done Geoffrey. A testament to technical mastery - I'd say a fairly exact split of Fahey vs. Flamenco, and more polished than spanish boots. Can I say it's surprisingly ... (gasps)... disciplined?
I like it...(his name is the same as mine)
author: Geoffrey A. LeeI like it because its sounds good. I also like it because my name is Geoffrey Lee also. But I dont know how to play like he does. I can play smoke on the water and even that sounds like shit. Oh well im glad someone with my name knows how to play the guitar.
one of the best solo guitarists
author: Bob PaskowitzThis set of music is extremely well-focused, expertly crafted and emotionally performed. I'm a musician who used to play with Geoff back in our college days, and he has shown phenomenal growth in this virtuostic body of work. There are very few discs out that offer this much crossover between styles.

author: Flamenco ConnectionLee’s style is a personal and very natural fusion of traditional Flamenco guitar sounds and those of contemporary guitar masters like Leo Kottke and John Fahey. The result is a unique and very likable sound that should appeal to a wide cross-section of guitar music lovers.
If you like solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar, you'll enjoy this one.
author: Andy BassfordGreetings! Andy Bassford here. I just want everybody to know that one of my favorite guitarists of all time has finally made a record. If you like solo fingerstyle acoustic guitar, you'll enjoy this one. Ever since I first heard Geoff play almost thirty years ago, I've been convinced that he was a real talent and hoped that the world would catch on to him. It looks like the process is beginning!
The strings like a boney fibre a tale of life told from underbelly & sand.
author: God's Park Docu-note Of JerseyThis is music to spend the rest of your day with. Let it go by catching a note a phrase an arcane reference turned infinitely meaningful. Or fall into it like a rabbithole of sorts letting the twining picking envelope & shape yr brain like so much silly putty. It moves you to move in. We all know the influences, they are glaring and there for the world to see. Boogie Mutants! Art picked from the likes of unsung folk geniuses like DK, The Smooshhead and Eddie Beardsley. They are the population of the JICAL planet hurled thru space a curve ball to dupe the snapping finger and make the heart sing songs it had forgotten long ago. This is music to spend the rest of life with.
