notes
Ghettobillies have been slowly building up what is now an international cult following for over 6 years. Inspired by such artists as Frank Zappa, the Dead Milkmen, Queen, and Jamiraquai and fired by the angst of middle America, Ghettobillies mix the old styles with the new and the muscle with the hustle. The 4 piece rock band balances power chords of thunderous proportions with delicate, sometimes falsetto vocals over a rocketing disco dance and funkified rhythm section. Originally a bluegrass trio with no percussion and singing in 3 part harmonies about such important themes as cross dressing, drug addiction, and love affairs with the handicapped, Ghettobillies have matured both lyrically and musically now as they incorporate driving funk and disco dance songs with power pop-punk hooks that leave you so happy you could pee.
Ghettobillies have released 2 EP's as well as 2 other full length albums in addition to "Still in the Pink". The second full length album, "Butterface", was released on Detroit independent Record label Planet Ant and their first full length album "Some Rezeev" was released independently in 1998. Their most recent full length album, Still in the Pink, was released in the fall of 2003 and is enjoying 5 star reviews and incredible sales!
With the precision of a surgeon, John Maloney (known as The Holy Maloney) dissects and reconstructs the break beats and concussive thuds that form the base of this rock and roll building of worship. Matt Longbons (known as Lord Bon bons & Bong) drops the complex slapping rivets of bass lines that hearken back to the days of Bootsie Collins and psychedelic patterns from the current Flea. Derek Kramer (AKA: Pope D 'licious) heralds a cornerstone in acoustic guitar innovation by squealing out 60's folk, 70's wah-wah rhythms, and 80's monsters of rock solos-all in one song. Rounding out the diversity of this 4-some is Robbie Conaway (AKA: Reverend C. Cobb) whose breakneck tongue tying lyrics, Freddy Mercury range and sticky thick guitar melodies bring the listener to their feet...and then to their knees.

author: BrookeOH MY GOD! I went skydiving at Napoleon last year, and 'hiding out' accidently ended up on my DVD. Well I lost the DVD, but have since been searching for the song. After becoming a regular skydiver this year, I went to the show last weekend... and heard my song! I had to buy the cd, and it is soooo addicting. Every song is absolutely amazing! Just orgasmic! Great!
author: Liam 'Theak' TheakstoneHark! Lo! I doth cry these words because they enrapture mine desire. Verily doth these gentlemen produce sounds celestial in their origins. Thine mercurial presence doth eliminate my plethora of doubt. Can thine melifluous odour continue in this vane?
Really love Larry's song!
author: Christa McNamee of RIPEThe Cd is so fun...a breath of fresh air for the car. So glad I heard about the band through the grapevine and own a little bit of the 'billies. My fav is Larry's song, thought I found myself singing the last song on the disk over and over and over...hooks are amazing when they push into your skull! Going to buy the live album next...the energy on that seems really really good as well (though I am a sucker for good clean production, as is with this disk).
Oh yes
author: BDHThis CD was nothing but fun. These guys sound like very talented and accomplished musicians who are able to write smart, extremely funny, irreverent, engaging, and booty-shaking songs. I couldn't help but dance and laugh, mostly both at the same time.
Liked the other CDs better ... but still good
author: Still in the Pink .... BarelyDoesn't hold a candle to Butterface and Some Rezeev but it still has a few good songs on it. It doesn't seem to have the "umpf" of the other two and didn't stay long in the CD changer.
UNBELIEVEABLE!
author: JennyHoly Crap are these guys staggeringly talented. The CD never gets old and it is impossible to feel down while listening to / watching them. They make you realize what's so great about being alive! When the HELL is a major record label going to realize what their missing? These guys are a guaranteed success. Seeing them live is indescribable.
This CD is awesome!
author: Rich K.Ghettobillies... what a hidden treasure. This CD is awesome! I'm not sure it's legal in some states for a band to have this much fun. With a range of mildly serious to totally outragous lyrics. And mellow to hard driving sounds. This CD has it all! Can't wait to see them live. Looks like that might be Sept 28th, 04 in Napoleon, MI. Buy it...
on a scale from one to cool these guys are obscenely awesome
author: Melinda Elsingwow, insanely awesome cd, the cd is good as hell, but man, if u get the chance to see them live, do so at all costs, ahhh so amazing, definately worth checking out

Awsome
author: AliciaThe ghettobillies are awsome! I go to their Flint shows at Rubes. last time i forgot to get their new disc. so i thought i would get this one to make up for my stupid mistake.
How do they keep the ghettobillies a secret?
author: DanaI listened to the three songs that they let you listen to on here, over and over, bought the cd, and it has not come out of my cd player since the package arrived. This is music that you just have to sing along to, and dance around, and jump up and down. I can't wait til the next concert I can get to...
