Sugar in my Coffee
2006
"BluesBunny wonders what is in the water in Texas these days. So much quality music is emanating from the Lone Star state. Ginger Leigh's album "Sugar in My Coffee" is no exception. We are talking about intelligent music for adults here. Miles away from fluffy bunny land. This is gritty stuff.
Let us consider some of the songs. "Holy World" impresses us with its commentary on the hypocrisy of modern society. The half-spoken intro to the album's title track "Sugar in My Coffee" is hypnotic leading us into a solid piece of rock. "Mexican Man" is a forthright tale of sexual (mis)adventure. Sort of like Carly Simon without the relationship issues, this song hits hard and reminds us why we should always listen to the lyrics. "Angel" puts us in mind of Tex-Mex legend Joe "King" Carrasco at his most manic with some powerhouse playing by Stewart Cochran driving the song along. Suffice it to say that we were strutting about the room singing along to this one. "In Your Company" is a fine ballad but beware - there is no sugar coating on this one.
Classy music with a conscience. Honest, direct and confrontational lyrics. And you hum the tunes. You can't ask for more than that."

"Smarts is something Ginger Leigh has always demonstrated and her release from earlier this year, Sugar in My Coffee, is another jolt of java-laced groove and sweetly composed tunes. That's not to suggest they're lightweight or otherwise insubstantial, but rather that Leigh strikes a delicate balance between style, substance, and unrestrained rock & roll, especially on songs such as 'Close Enough,' 'Angel,' and 'Mexican Man.'"-- Austin Chronicle, Margaret Moser, Sept. 2006
"There’s a line in a Bonnie Raitt song that unbeknownst to Raitt, describes Ginger Leigh's style as a musician and performer perfectly: “She’s a walking contradiction.”
Leigh struts out on stage, part Bette Midler vamp, part Gibson SG axe swinging rock star. As one of the reigning divas of the Austin Indie scene, Leigh combines her on-stage cabaret antics with soulful lyrics and passionate delivery."

Ginger Leigh, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas comes from the legendary musical family, The Cones. Ginger's great-grandfather is touted "the first photographer in San Antonio," shooting some of the city's and the nation's most notable subjects. He and his wife bore Jack Cones, Ginger's grandfather, who became a professional musician and photographer, taking over the famous Cones Studio at the age of 12. Later in life he married Jane Henry, a national touring singer, fronting some of the nation's best Big Bands. She carried her own live radio show at the age of 16. She too was following her own father's footsteps, for he was nationally signed and a famous touring Dixieland musician. Jack and Jane Cones had three beautiful daughters later appropriately named "The Cones Sisters" who became famous in Central Texas and Nashville, Tennessee. From the oldest daughter, Jill, came Ginger Leigh who is now the 5th generation professional musician from the family, along with Nashville-based cousin and major-label musician/producer, Mickey Jack Cones.
Ginger, however, did not remain in San Antonio. She began touring the United States and Europe, hailing from her home in Austin, where she graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Sociology and Italian. She toured with backing from S4 Records (Sony Italia) and worked closely with artists such as Suzanne Vega and Michelle Shocked.
Ginger Leigh's Recorded History:

After the split of Ginger and Sarah, Ms. Leigh began her solo career again, hailing from Austin, where in 2003 she independently released critically-aclaimed "Charge Laughing."
In late 2004, Ginger Leigh recorded her high-energy live
performance at Momos, one of Austin’s hottest clubs.
On Love.Music, "Vivo" was released and has sold numerous
