notes

The Band That Never Was is a strange collection of songs and music.

While influenced by Beatles, Dylan and Bowie, Sean Good stands unique and mostly alone. 'The Band That Never Was' sounds alot like a garage band at times, and a movie sountrack at others.

It's all done by sean with Richard Koerner co writing and performing on four pieces.Sean's voice is captivating, the beats are basic and the music is originated in folk guitar chords. The result is pleasing, contemporary and a good alternative to what we call alternative music.

From the soft duet of 'list of reasons' to the sour note shadow guitar on 'Victory show', Sean conveys his feelings and reactions to modern life.

'The Band That Never Was' is a refreshing collectable and should be listened to over and over. The sequel is now in progress. Give a good listen.

I bought this CD due to a chance recommendation, and was not at all disappointed. All those comparisons to Bowie are valid, but Sean Good leaves a more haunting, melancholy impression. But I also get the sense that he has a tremendous sense of humor, some of the lyrics are sung with such childlike offhandedness - the sound really catches you with its naïveté and sadness. This really captures my aesthetic interest completely. I love this CD!

GOO GOO GAJOOB REVIEW today's reviews @ gajoob Sean Good Vol. 1, the band that never was Sean Good should be a welcomed new addition to your plate of solid alternative tunes. Good's music is a mix of Bowie (Diamond Dogs-era), John Lennon (Working Class Hero-era), and modern angst bands with the difference being Sean's capable blend of possibly ambient influences. There's also a great flow to the album, with instrumentals, acoustic and full productions which gives the album a depth you'll find urging you back for one more listen.        Saved message From: tonni@webtv.net (tonni) Date: Sun, (sean good) Subject: Re: Open Review cut/paste The Band That Never Was Interesting collection of eclectic - things. I don't happen to know of Sean Good, so I'm not sure if vol. 1 refers to hits of a great artist, all collected up; or if it's just a good marketing gimmick. Keeps ya guessing, eh? Well, about the closest I can come to this artist is Bowie. Wonderfully potent tracks like 'Ian' and 'Freighter' remind me so much of Bowie's Low and Heroes albums, I'm frightened. Though there's much more texture, I'd say, in Sean's instrumentals, probably since he doesn't have the minimalist Eno to contend with. Keyboards over the odd piano noise make a construction that's either progressive or ambient. I suppose it depends on who listens. And then, like Heroes, after the anti-vocal track, in comes a heavy beat and singing that isn't really like anything else out there. I'm talking about the 4 minute 'Trudy' which might sound something like Elvis trying to make a 90s comeback. I like the floating keyboard sounds that sprinkle the place over like chopped nuts. Heavy. Dark, but not without a moon. If you're the sort who thinks Bowie can't sing; that Lennon's solo albums are garbage; that Elvis Costello indulges himself too often; chances are you aren't going to spin this one often. If you're big enough to like your music to sound different from anything the hell else, you'll be playing this, dude(ss). This one's for anyone 'Young and Angry'.
