notes
Greg Aaron's "Rings in Spaces" has excellent melodies combined with thought-provoking lyrics and the arrangements of the tracks sound full, interesting and REAL ! Rooted in melodies and arrangements inspired by artists such as the Beatles, Sheryl Crow, Tears for Fears and Stevie Wonder, he recorded with more than 40 musicians over two years, using lots of acoustic guitars, real piano, real string players and a wide variety of background vocalists, guitarists, drummers and bass players. Some of the most talented people around today worked on the album, including Robbie Adams, (mixed many U2 songs and Smashing Pumpkins), Gregg Williams (did most of the drums on Sheryl Crow's "Globe Sessions" and co-produced Dandy Warhols), Christian Cassan and Steve Rossiter. "Rings in Spaces" is an album of 10 songs which are bound together by their quality and intensity but from song to song they offer plenty of surprises: from a small gospel choir and raucous hand-clapping in the lively and touching "Quiet Power" to old-school Clavinets and Fender keys in "Living in the World" and "I Don't Know How to Live" to the galactical-sounding, modern programming in the gorgeous and catchy title track. Greg's voice is unusually clear and strong and some of the songs have remarkable lyrical depth, such as "When I'm Alone" and "Small Talk." There's no fluff here and the album's diversity and seriousness is very refreshing !

Melodic, literate, and emotional, and it rocks!
author: Tom Bandy, Washington DCI hardly ever like new CDs . . . I usually have to live with them for a while before I warm up to them. Rings in Space grabbed me on he first playing and hasn't let go. It's not only melodic, literate, and emotional, but it rocks, too! I can't recommend a favorite tune yet, but certainly the title cut is remarkable. BUY THIS CD NOW!
A great album, terrific music, words, everything
author: Vince Stroud, Adelaide, South AustraliaI had never heard of Greg Aaron or his music until about 5 weeks ago. A friend in the US recommended the track Falling Out of Love to me. I did a search on Google & heard a few sound bites & was immediately impressed by Greg & Rings in Spaces. I love the whole album, the vocals, the compositions, the music, everything. Tracks 3,4,5,6 & 7 are my pick of the crop. A great musical experience.
Rare genius in every regard
author: Ron BraetI've had this CD several weeks and it's been the only CD in my player since then, which is exceedingly unusual considering I usually change CDs 3 or 4 times from home to work! It's absolutely mesmerizing, and coworkers have repeatedly had to ask me to stop humming its infectious melodies. There are many artists immensely talented in their arena -- whether as an instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, lyricist, or producer -- but it's profoundly rare to run into an artist of Greg's caliber who possesses genius-level talent in all of these areas. Occasionally, we all have special experiences in our lives that refresh the entire way we see the world... and for me, Rings in Spaces has been just such an experience. You really should treat yourself to this incredible CD.
I appreciate it more each time I play it!
author: Earl StonerIf I can find a song of two on a first play of a CD that catches my attentiion and keeps me coming back I know it's something good. This is especially true when it's a new artist. "Falling out of Love" and "Battery Sun" were those 2 songs on this CD for me. "Falling out of Love" breaks my heart (and I've played it over and over) and "Battery Sun" brings my spirits up. Now that I've had the CD for a few weeks, I'm finding more and more to love. Each listen gives me something new and fresh. I love this CD and I highly recommend it.
Really now, what are you waiting for?
author: Keith CollinsIf you're even a casual music fan, the influences that have informed some of the style of Greg's songwriting will likely be apparent. But what's staggering is how quickly those signposts will fade as you find yourself entranced by Greg's fresh conjuring of sweet, lovely popcraft and generous, warm voice. I was hooked from the opening track "Battery Sun," which cured me of a recurrent bout of falling back on my New Wave youth to escape from the sonic blahs of most contempo (including winking retro-contempo) songs. Now I can be up with the times, behind the times and comfortably floating above them -- with an eye fixed ahead of them -- by slipping into these Rings In Spaces (the album's title track, by the way, is superlative, as is most of the remainder of the CD -- however, special mention must be made of When I'm Alone -- if this vibrant piece doesn't at least give your soul a wise, doleful nudge on first listen, check for a heartbeat.
Impressive collection of songs
author: Veronica CollinI'm impressed with this CD. It's a well written, and well-sung collection of songs about real life. The songs are clean and uncluttered and leave space not only to appreciate the poetry behind the words, but the excellent collection of instruments and voices that wrap around each other.
solid pop album
author: aaron gloverRings In Spaces is a new (and welcome) sound in the pop-rock catalogue. the songwriting is well above average for most of the album, the melodies are memorable and the sound in general is finished, but not too glossy. perhaps best of all, the albums replay factor is high. lyrically, ... spaces gets no better than small talk, falling out of love and when i'm alone (tracks 3, 5, and 7 respectively). at times, especially on the previously mentioned songs, there is almost too much production, as the songs lend themselves to a simple piano-vocal arrangement. still, the album as a whole is definitely worth purchasing, and with its nice balance of up tempo songs (tracks 1, 2, 8), ballad ( 3, 5, 7), and other material to mix it up (including the contemplative title track), Rings In Spaces should definitely be on your short list to purchase.
Uplifting, poignant, touching and personal.
author: Jonathan RobertsGreg connects directly with us on this CD guiding us through the complexities of the human condition from the joy and hope of faith to the heartbreak of unfulfilled love. His lyrics are insightful and his music meshes perfectly with the message of each song. It is refreshing to listen to his tenor voice so rich in its lows and free in its highs. I’ve listened to this CD almost constantly over the past few weeks, each listening experience revealing a new musical or lyrical subtlety. This is a wonderful CD!!
You gotta hear this!!!!!
author: DomThis cd has it all. You name it, it has it! From mellow tunes to high pitch beats. Greg is very talented and this cd proves it. The production is fantastic, the quality is great, the melody of each song is brings out all the music..Listen to "Battery Sun" and "Living in the world"..Without a doubt, the best i've heard..If you do niot buy this cd, then you are missing out, so make sure you buy it!
an unusually likable singer-songwriter
author: Vicki AbshireI've had this album for three weeks, and it's spent nearly all that time in the disc drive, a treatment heretofore achieved by Joseph Arthur and just about no one else since Tears for Fears in their prime. The ten songs here are intriguingly written, involvingly played, and energetically sung. Greg Aaron has a beautiful voice, light and supple and eminently listenable. After many listens, I find myself singing along with the cd and even, at times, singing the songs around the house. Through his songs, Greg Aaron reveals himself as someone very much worth getting to know.
New levels with each listen
author: Joe RuxIf you're a writer, a word smith, a poet, or any type of creative person, you want this album. At first I thought I was most impressed with the lyrics. But by the fourth day of owning this album, I was waking up in the morning with the melodies in my head. Each song is a meal. Allow yourself the comfort of being sated and buy this album.
Looking for music that brings you to new places?
author: Aileen MorganThis CD has complexities that will move you both physically and emotionally, as only great music can do. Greg has woven his extraordinary musical gifts into a powerful collection of songs. This is the type of album that no matter how many times you listen to it (and you will want to again and again), you will hear something new every time. Greg's musical genius shines through on "Rings in Spaces". Don't pass this one up!
