notes

Born in Australia, raised in Toronto and New York, briefly a resident in Colorado, Ohio, and North Carolina, Greg Tannen is the son of an amateur jazz pianist and the grandson of a magician.

His music has "won more awards than his website has space to list, such is it's quality" and with one listen, it’s easy to hear why. Besides a flood of wins in international songwriting competitions (John Lennon, UNISONG, USA, ISC), and in festivals (Sierra Songwriters, Telluride, Rocky Mountain Folks), Greg’s music can be heard on national TV, on national radio, and in award-winning films. He has also shared the stage with musical greats such as Rosanne Cash and John Hammond.

His previous two albums, “Roam” and “Coney Island”, were both chosen as one of the "Top 12 Independent Albums" of the year by Performing Songwriter magazine. His sophomore album, "Coney Island", was completed with the help of 3 Grammy winners (co-producer, mixing engineer and mastering engineer).

Greg lives in and works out of NYC, and is a regular at places like the legendary Bitter End and the Living Room. He tours across the U.S. either solo or with his band.

When I first saw Greg some years ago I was taken by his poetic insights, romantic sensibilities and ability to put lyric to tune. Coney Island is one of my favorite CDs. I have only played the Rocket a couple of times, but the thru lines are there. It is familiar without being overly so. It is touching and insightful about the human condition. It has humor, self-awareness and fills in the spaces around your head in your heart.

We have all enjoyed Greg's previous albums and this one continues with his special style and moods. "Something About October" and "Things Don't Always Work Out" will probably become quick favorites, along with "Single Man" and "On a Holiday" being songs you will find going on in the back of your mind.

  • New music by a master songwriter !!

Once again Greg shows that he´s a great artist. The tunes are very catchy, the production is crystal clear. This cd was worth the wait.

As a fond follower of Greg's work, I can say this is some of the best yet. After listening to a few samples on his myspace profile, I had no hesitation in picking up a copy of this new album. Greg Tannen at his best.
