notes

Under the direction of Chief Musician Phillip Peterson, the Grace Seattle Experimental Orchestra introduces a fresh voice to sacred music. Combining ancient and modern musical influences and instrumentation, the Orchestra's hymns invite celebration, contemplation, and worship.

The Grace Seattle Experimental Orchestra involves musicians of impressive talent and diverse backgrounds. The Orchestra has performed at Seattle's Benaroya Hall, including the 2004 premiere of an original oratorio. The Orchestra also provides worship music for weekly services at Grace Church Seattle (www.graceseattle.org).

Depth of Mercy is the Orchestra's second release. Except when using traditional tunes, music and arrangement of each hymn is Peterson's original composition.

  • Highly original, daring
    author: Ray

This is a newer PCA church in Seattle. 16 tracks (all but one is 3 minutes or under). The horns on The Eternal Word; What Wonderous Love is This, etc. are really haunting, soulful, for example. Very rich sound. HIGHLY original, daring, quirky to say the least -- 'experimental' is accurate. My favorite tracks are Ps. 117; Let All mortal Flesh Keep Silent; and The Eternal Word. The cover art is less impressive than the music.
