H’Atina, the “H” is silent. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she is no foreigner to entertainment. H’Atina has been dancing, singing and performing since her tyke years. She began dancing and decided to take up singing, as she has always loved to sing and perform on stage. Being a great writer, she writes songs and poetry as well. H’Atina attended the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts where she studied music and received training in the areas of music theory, performance, chorus, ear training, musical theatre, songwriting and vocal jazz. Her vocal background and abilities include rhythm & blues, pop, funk, neo-soul, jazz, adult contemporary and musical theatre. Her influences include Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Teena Marie, Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, and Janet Jackson, to name a few. Performance-wise she has worked with the late Ron Townsen (of the 5th Dimensions), jazz group: Art O’ Sax, and performed on BET Live! with IMX (formerly known as ‘Immature’). Her sultry voice and tight 5-piece band, Black Water, have graced the stages of hot spots throughout Southern California and Arizona, like The Gig, The Mint, The Cinegrill, Dragonfly, Fais Do Do, The Atlas Supper Club, The Martini Lounge, The Voodoo Lounge, Giancarlo (formerly Farfalla), Diego’s, Bluewater Casino, and Dante’s Den at the Sixty-Six Club. She has also performed at festivals like the Malcolm X Festival in Leimert Park. H’Atina has also recorded with great musicians like Wilton Felder of the Jazz Crusaders and Gerald Albright, as well as worked with hot producers like Jeremy and Sweet of Sway’d Cap Productions (producers & writers of Jennifer Lopez’ “Love don’t cost a thing”) and Andre Cymone, as well as upcoming producers like Ron Steven “Brainstorm” Baker and Rick “Redd” Alder. Additionally, H’Atina received a live radio interview on 102.3 KJLH with Cliff & Janine...The Home Team, and a television interview on Tha Zone TV. She released her first CD in 2002, has been promoting and selling her self-titled CD, and is now working on a new CD project for the new 2009 year. H’Atina’s music defines her and energizes her to give her audience the best of H’Atina. She captivates her audience through her unique and sultry voice and her passionate performance. Yes, H’Atina is an independently unique artist who will be around providing great music to fans for years to come.
