notes
Few bands can create such an appealing and overwhelmingly unique sound, while still staying true to their musical vision. Highwater Rising is one of those rare few, and they have generated a huge buzz in the industry in just a few months.
Described by KCRW host Chris Douridas ("New Ground") as "epic scale modern rock that's both melodic and bracing," Highwater Rising's music is truly their own. "I listen to mainly soul and blues," says frontman Aidan Hawken. "I don't listen to a lot of what's on the radio today," he says, citing such historic influences as Curtis Mayfield and Bob Marley. However, critics still compare the band's sound to current artists like Coldplay and U2 and more recent classic artists like Peter Gabriel and Counting Crows.
Introduced by Hawken's sister, Hawken and guitarist JJ Wiesler formed HWR in San Francisco in 1997. Once keyboardist Jason Borger joined, the band's sound really began to take shape. "We hope to make a classic album. One that will be looked back on years from today as groundbreaking," says Borger.
Such aspirations may not be far from the truth. Twelve labels are already buzzing about, including Atlantic, Interscope, Lava, Maverick, MCA and RCA , many with whom the band has already met. "Wasted Days" is currently being spun on KCRW and HWR is planning an upcoming live interview and performance on Douridas' hit show "New Ground." Even television shows like MTV's "The Real World" are abuzz with interest in using the band's songs.
Having already graced the stage at San Francisco's famous Fillmore and been hand-picked by A-list producer Eric Valentine (of Smash Mouth/Third Eye Blind fame) to record three songs in mid-June 2002, the band has retained its down to earth perspective. "We've been together for five years so the fact that all this is happening so quickly is exciting, but also a bit incredible," states Wiesler. "People are really coming from all directions supporting us...it's amazing."
Hawken adds, "It's really amazing, especially considering these are all just demos we've written and recorded in our free time."
Indeed, Highwater Rising is clearly a band on the rise.

I first heard songs from this album years ago and instantly fell in love with the band! The whole album is amazing and I can happily listen to it on repeat. The songs are inspiring and simply amazing. Nothing more can be said, just buy the album and find out for yourself how great it is! Also, service from CDBaby is excellent, so no excuses for not buying it..!
wonderful music!!
author: neil (Blackpool, UK)This really is wonderful music and one of the best I have found on CD Baby. It reminds me of Coldplay, Snow Patrol and Keane. Why is this band not all over the charts as well? They certainly deserve to be. My favourite tracks are Coming Undone, Lie Awake and Wasted Days. I also own the 2001 Highwater Rising CD - The Waiting, which has 6 songs on this CD (track no's 1, 2, 7, 5, 8, 9), and 3 other songs on their new Summer Somewhere EP (Escape This Town, 30 Years, Summer Somewhere). I still prefer some of the the original recordings, especially the original version of Coming Undone on The Waiting, which has a better pace and packs more emotion. It's a shame the tracks 'Escape This Town', '30 Years' and 'Another Day' didn't make it onto this CD, but at least 2 of them are on the EP. Having said that this is still a great album and I would recommend this album to anyone who appreciates quality music. Thanks HWR
:)
author: Casey TaylorWow i love this album..its beautiful! I heard "life in three parts" in Roswell and just couldnt get it out of my head..they are really talented songwriters. Thanks alot!

Then ,I wanted the entire album ,which is so great ,by the way!!!!!I'm French (so I live in France ,and we don't have such artists in my generation!!!!Everything is so great ,the music ,the lyrics...I can't spend hours without listening it!!!!!
I loved the emails I got about them sending it to me.
author: Suzi HultsI loved the emails I got about them sending it to me. My husband was jealous that I got it so fast. I loved the cd. My favorite song is Oceans!!! That was by far the best service online I have ever had.
Best CD I've heard in a long time
author: JJamesI first heard Highwater Rising in the movie "Employee of the Month". Something about the harmony of their voices and the smooth flow made me want to know more about them and I was hooked. I've had this CD for about 2 weeks now and I can't stop listening to it. It reminds me of Coldplay, Peter Gabriel... even Howard Jones at times. It's not a CD thats going to get you pumping during a workout but if you want to sit back, relax and listen to some smooth music with thought provoking lyrics this is the CD you want to pop in the player. I'm looking forward to see what these guys will bring out next. Great work!!
CD is really great! Love it!
author: Zach DavisI really enjoy this cd! IT is great.. Love this kind of music...
This one will grow on you!
author: DaveHeard "Life in Three Parts" on the Roswell DVD and then "Kissing Tree", and had to get the CD, even on import to the UK. Those remain my two standout favourites but the whole CD grows on you after a few listens. Good for chilling out to - if you like Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Thirteen Senses, then give this an audition...
love it!
author: MariaThe songs are all great! I bought this CD for my mom and she absolutely loves it as well! Basically every song is one you want to listen to over and over again.

This cd is absolutely brilliant
author: BrittanyThe music in this cd is gorgeous. The harmonies, the beats, and the lyrics are just so beautiful it breaks your heart. This cd is definitely worth buying. The band is extremely talented and the lead singer's voice is gorgeous on this cd. They are completely unique compared to the mainstream crap out there. I HIGHLY recommend The In Between. :]
Simply great music
author: ChrisIt's been a long time since I've bought a cd, as I'm tired of paying for 3-4 tracks I like. But this CD is great all the way through... catchy, heartfelt, addicting. Love the piano. I think they've been sampled on the OC and WB, but Coming Undone, In My Head, Lie Awake, and Life in 3 Parts are strong enough to carry a motion picture. I hope they come back to Portland, OR to play a show.
great cd... heart felt lyrics...
author: edthis is an amazing album. the lyrics are truly heart felt. the piano sounds so great in "in my head"..
Love Oceans and In my head
author: The InbetweenIf they stayed away from the generic rock and let the singer get down with his piano, and sing his soul out more they would be famous.
great
author: Danfantastic album. thought it was brilliant after first listening to it and it gets better and better
Great disc!
author: MichaelWhen I first heard the song 'Coming Undone', I thought to myself that this is a long great unknown Catherine Wheel single. I listened to 'Wasted Days' next and decided that I have to have this album. I do not regret that decision at all.
It's growing on me
author: BillThis CD is a strong initial release, though in my opinion some of the lyrics were weak, or a bit lacking in artistic finesse, on some tracks. I was also hoping for more distinct tempo/beat changes between some of the tracks. The CD got too slow, especially in the middle. However, with this said I'd definitely recommend this CD and I will probably buy HR's next release, based on this CD.
awesome
author: jenawesome awesome cd. love all the songs.
Best Indie Rock CD I've ever purchased
author: Dr. FozzThis album is extremely well done, from writing, to arrangement to production, I am very impressed. I've had it in my CD player for a week now. The vibe is kinda mellow and very melodic. I also appreciate the intelligence of the lyrics. There is a little room (very little) for refinement in certain areas lyricly on a couple tracks which would probably have been worked out by an experienced producer with little effort, but overall I think it's a great album. I can't wait for their next one.
THIS CD WILL LIFT YOU UP AND HEAL YOU!
author: AnannaI think every song on this CD by Highwater Rising is a hit. I have been listening to this CD for a year and I always come back to "The In Between" when I want to feel good! "Lie Awake" really rocks and "Life in Three Parts" is so soulful and beautiful. These guys have GOT IT!
Just Awesome
author: AndreThis Artist should win an award or something. This group is really talented.
Exceptional album
author: BethI was extremely impressed with this entire album. Every song on it is fantastic!
One of the best c.d's ever.
author: CandiceThis C.D is probably one of the best you could ever pick up. HighWater Rising is defentally a band that is rising on the list. Wasted Days, to me, is the best song on the C.D. No matter your mood, you can count on this C.D to cheer you up. It's, overall, of the best C.Ds ever.
amazing
author: isabelthe heart soars in between voice and instruments, between ebb and flood, beach fog and pines, fossils in rocks, HWR is floating off the map

This CD ROCKS!! I recently heard "Coming Undone" on internet radio and instantly fell in love. I just had to have the album. The lyrics are honest and the band says everthing I wish I could. Being a fan of the Eagles, Coldplay, The Wallflowers and A Blue Hotel, this cd will be a mainstay in my player. If only I lived in CA so I could here them live. You guys need to play in TN!!!
My favorite local band!!! Deep, emotional & soulful; this band truly does it fo
author: Bud MakelkeThere are very few bands out there that stir my emotions like Highwater Rising does. The In Between is full of songs of life & love that will get you groovin', whether you're sitting or standing. I LOVE THIS CD!!!
you guys belt what I wish I could express
author: corinneah well, what to say but that I can play this entire CD and enjoy every single second of it. Bring me up, mellow me out, make me jump and sing, and f*ck, make my heart wring itself silly. Overall, thank you, thank you, it's kids like these producing sounds like those that remind me why I'm here, why I'm continually drawn back to their shows, and why I don't think I could live without music. Oh, please just sing it since the rest of us can't really find the words. Meanwhile, I'll keep "the in between" on repeat.
Good Lead Vocals, Great Backup Music.
author: Robert Lee Johnson -- The Guitar ManThis is a Good CD. Some Great Lead Vocals and the Band is superb.
Good songs, good lyrics - what more can you ask for?
author: Liquid Sound and LightIt's a strong bet you'll be hearing Highwater on a radio near you at some point in the future. There are a few really memorable cuts on the track, some really touching lyrics, and the melodies and producing make it all come together. The only negative thing I can say about it is some of the drum tracks don't support the rest of the band as well as they could, but the songs are strong enough to make up for it. With time and experience, they'll go far....
